Rangers' Sam Dyson: Earns second save Sunday
by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
Dyson pitched a perfect ninth inning to collect his second save of the season Sunday against the Blue Jays.

After Shawn Tolleson blew saves in consecutive outings, it was no surprise that Dyson found himself on the mound in a save situation. He was given a one-run lead, and was able to close out the contest without a hint of drama. Despite the save opportunity, he's been an excellent setup man, as he has 10 holds along with a 1.89 ERA.

Desmond having a good month

Rangers' Ian Desmond: Blasts game-winning homer Sunday

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
Desmond went 2-for-4 with a homer, a double and four RBI on Sunday against the Blue Jays.

Desmond's fifth homer was a three-run blast that provided the winning runs in the seventh inning. After a dismal April, he's come alive with a .302/.356/.509 slash line this month.

Rangers' Adrian Beltre: Mashes sixth homer Sunday
by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
Beltre went 1-for-4 with a solo homer Sunday against the Blue Jays.

Beltre's sixth long ball of the year helped the Rangers begin to erase a deficit they would eventually overcome in a winning effort. He's struggled to find his power in 2016, producing only four extra-base hits over his last 13 contests. The preceding has led to a slugging percentage of .417 this month.

Rangers' Jake Diekman: Retires both batters faced
by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
Diekman retired the only two batters he faced to close out the eighth inning in a 7-6 victory over Toronto on Sunday.

Diekman has only given up one run in his last seven outings and has racked up five holds and 10 strikeouts during that time. Along with posting career bests in ERA (2.51) and WHIP (1.05), the lefty is showing great command this year with an impressive 2.51 BB/9. The 29-year-old has a firm grasp on late-inning relief work for the Rangers; he could very well lead the team in holds this season.

Rangers' Derek Holland: Takes tough loss against Athletics
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Holland (3-3) allowed two runs on three hits and a walk with one strikeout over six innings in a loss Monday against the Athletics.

Holland threw 60 strikes out of 90 pitches as he pounded the strike zone. He induced just one swinging strike, though, as he continues to struggle to find strikeouts. Holland has just 21 in 40 innings, a 4.7 K/9 that is more than a full strikeout below his previous career low. He managed to make it work despite drawing just seven ground balls in 19 balls in play, but his inability to miss bats is the main reason why Holland owns a 5.63 ERA even after Tuesday's quality start.

To this point Darvish has thrown 4 innings today and has given up 1 unearned run on 2 hits and 1 walk while striking out 5. He has thrown 58 pitches and 39 of them have been strikes.

I would imagine one more start.

Yeah I was thinking today, cause he was up near the allotted 75 pitches and innings limit. I think you are correct though in he has 1 more start at RR to get close to 100 pitches. The start today was for AA

Wonder what Joe's still got?

Cubs add veteran former All-Star Joe Nathan, coming off Tommy John

The veteran reliever is recovering from Tommy John surgery

The Cubs are taking a chance on Joe Nathan getting back to form.

USATSI
The Cubs on Tuesday announced that they signed veteran reliever Joe Nathan to a major-league contract for 2016. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Nathan, 41, is working his way back from Tommy John surgery, which he underwent in April of last year.

Across parts of 15 big-league season, Nathan has pitched to a 2.89 ERA (150 ERA+) and 2.84 K/BB ratio in 777 games, 748 of which have been relief appearances. Nathan's 377 career saves put him eighth on the all-time list.

Nathan's obviously had a great career, but in 2014, his last full season, he logged an ERA+ of 81 while issuing 26 unintentional walks in 58 innings. Consider this a depth signing by the Cubs.

I didn't think he would get a major league deal. I really thought the Rangers would sign him to a minor league deal.
