Basketball overtook baseball a while ago.

It is on its upswing with or without you watching. Baseball is on the opposite of an upswing.

Sucks, but it is what it is.
Mlb has more fans than the nba. It's not that close. Mlb is dominated by local markets. The nba has a few teams people like to watch so national games get better ratings than mlb but the mlb teams get huge local market tv contracts. That's why they more money than the nba.

Nope, you have a major sports network that shows the little league world series every year, what network shows the little league basketball championships? Baseball is doing just fine.

I googled most watched sports in America and posted links to the first 3 results, all three list baseball ahead of basketball.

And it can support it. Maybe the pistons are more liked than the Tigers (no idea) but mlb is still the second most popular. It may change someday but it will take a while.

It's gaining participants, not losing them.

at what rate? i'm guessing the # of kids playing lacrosse in this country is still just a drop of piss in the bucket compared to the other traditional sports.

Umps might not have near as many chances to screw up big plAys especially with replay, but an ump is making a judgement call on every pitch that isn’t swung at. Getting a guy like CB Bucknor behind the plate can effect the game as much as any football ref. The lack of a time clock and having to give the other team their chance makes baseball the most pure non combat sport

If you don't like the pace of play then don't watch... Simple as that. Especially when you pay almost $150 with ticket and food to watch a game... I want my time there and not only to sit in the stands for 90 minutes
start by saying im not a baseball fan. But live its not bad. Its on tv that its tortue. granted i played semi's for ice hockey, and i can watch on tv, but tv sucks for hockey too, and its great live........just my 2 cents

Nah, I can tell what is a dying sport but no one wants to discuss it...american football.

In the next 4 years you will start to see it play out where high school football will see a major dropoff. There is an affluent suburb here in the D/FW metroplex that has always been known for football. They didn't even field a middle school team this season because not enough parents were willing to let the kids play. In TEXAS!

It was about 10-12 years ago all of the CTE and safety stuff started up for the NFL. Current middle schoolers are the first generation growing up really discussing the dangers of the game. I see baseball picking up the slack, as you don't have to be >6'4" tall to really have a shot to play. Soccer is even more boring than baseball, but will pick up some kids going that way. Golf and Tennis are what they are. Volleyball is the sport I'd like to see more boys go into, I love playing that.

Did you ever play much baseball? Not an asshole question, serious. I ask because I felt the same way about golf. When I could go to the Nelson it was cool because of the atmosphere but couldn't watch it on TV. Then I tried to play it. Now I can watch it on TV because I can appreciate it more. I think baseball is the same way. If you play, or even coach little kids, you get more of a feeling for how good the teams are. When all I did was watch golf it was "so what, everyone makes those shots".

Which is why youth sports are so important. Get kids playing and appreciating the ins and outs of the game and you can hook them watching on TV.

Anyone that says baseball is dying or that baseball is boring, I just assume they're stupid and not worth my time.
It's a sport for intellectuals. Dumber people tend to gravitate toward a preference for contact sports because they identify with the violence.
