McCoy (grant it) it was in Cleveland but he has had his opportunity. If RG3 fails they HAVE to see what KC can do (imo) with a little more time under his wings now. Was he that bad? What I remember was an offense that continually moved the offense. He was quick in his delivery and appears to be a solid drop back QB which is apparently what Gruden wants. Are those untimely INT's (from basically a rookie QB making his first starts) still haunting coaches on that team. The dude better be the number 2. WTF do they really see in McCoy that leads them to believe he's a better option than KC. I realize im not there at practice but c'mon. WTF does this guy have to do here in Wash. No wonder he wants the ef out.

Its an open competition for the back up spot. We'll see how it plays out.

McCoy is tough as nails. Played with an injured neck. Is a winner.
With a good offensive line, and his quickness, he can win games.
Still not sure if Cousins can overcome his mental scar tissue.

I would like to see Cousins win that battle...but I like that it is a tough competition, makes both practice harder, and hopefully be better

I agree but it is up to Cousins. If he outplays McCoy he will get the nod, if not MC will get the go ahead.

Their was no upside for playing McCoy last year never mind this year. Why do they continue to stun KC's growth? Gruden is starting to scare me. IF we played Cousins last year he would of had more game experience and be a better QB right now. We didn't so now they will just hand the job to RG3 and actually have a QB battle of the #2 spot. ITs just crazy on how we evaluate QB's. We should be trying to trade McCoy this offseason b/c a lot of teams could use a veteran backup QB. KC is really getting a raw deal with this franchise. There is no way that this starting QB competition is going to be legit in training camp and pre-season.

I can see it now... RG3 goes down in game one one in comes Colt to save the day. Definitive word right there is "day".. cause he aint saving the year. After the Cowboys game last year in his next two starts his QBR was 26 and 7 respectively. I won't harp but I can't understand for the life of me what they see in Colt. Like Dean just said.. where is the upside... we kinda know what Colt is,, we still really don't know what KC is. If Colt takes 2nd spot I seriously have to question this coach and his lack of understanding what's in play here.

Dude bout ran RG3 out of town last year while starting a journeyman QB and all the while had no inclination of trading KC at all. IMO KC has everything it takes to be a starting QB in this league,, the only thing he lacks is playing time to learn and grow. Of course my opinion means nothing. Just tired of this QB roller coaster... we honestly have no idea who our starter is (should be),, and who our 2nd string is.

RG3 should have been run out of town with his horrific play . i agree we should have let KC play through it

Colt is a career back up. We know that. What we don't know is how far is the upside for KC. As pointed out earlier, KC moved they offense consistently. He also made glaring mistakes. But that is not uncommon for young, inexperienced QBs. What, he's got all of 5 or 6 starts in this league? Go back and take a look as some HoF QBs early years. Hell, Bradshaw threw a pick almost every other pass his first few years. Same with aikman. Not saying that KC is anywhere near their talent, but those mistakes QBs tend to grow out of ( unless you are sexy rexy). What they don't grow out of is sensing pressure from the blindside and knowing when to step up in the pocket vs break and run.

Mccoy was a free agent this past offseason, if anyone had wanted him, they would have offered him a contract....i dont remeber any teams any sniffing around him..

Everyone please vent now, so we don't have to hear it later when McCoy beats out KC for the back up qb job.
Whoever wants to go first please.

Who Wins Redskins Backup QB Battle? | ChatRedskins.com
"But which one will it be? I’ll say it will be Colt McCoy who wins the backup job. I think based on last season Jay Gruden just simply trusts him more than Cousins. Kirk Cousins may have a bigger upside than McCoy but I think McCoy is the more sound of the two right now.

When Cousins catches fire he can sling it for sure, he’s proven that. But it’s a situation of when he’s hot he’s hot but when he’s not he’s not. Colt McCoy is just a bit more consistent."

hmmm?
