— Izzo on Michigan State’s last eight days against #2 Gonzaga, #4 Kentucky and Villanova

“When I look at this week, that was the most memorable week in my whole career. To play Friday, Tuesday, Friday, and the way we had to do it and the teams we had to play and the preparation for three different teams.”

I saw something that said Izzo was 72-0 or something like that in home ooc games? That's just insane!!!

I've seen several Gopher fans talk about how the B1G was down this year, but a lot of winning, including wins over highly rated teams seems to have the B1G rating quite well this season so far, while the PAC, at their current rate, may only get 2-4 teams into the big dance.

Sagarin has 11 B1G teams ranked Top 50 with Michigan at #53 and with 8 ranked Top 35 with Wisc at #39. I mention Wisc because of how close they came to taking down #3 Kansas. 5 are ranked Top 20, significant because that puts them in top 4-5 seed range.

Sagarin only has 2 PAC teams in the Top 25 and only 4 in the Top 50. Massey only has 1 in the Top 25 & 2 in the Top 50. That's bad

Massey has 6 B1G's in the Top 20, with OSU at #22 & Illinois are #24 and a total of 12 in the Top 50. That's insane!

This won't help the Gophers unless of course they can figure out how to beat a few of those highly rated teams. They'll need a couple of their frosh to start improving as the loss to UNLV showed.

Both Battle and Garcia had good performances along with one of the freshman, but that still left them 10 points shy of a victory and most B1G teams are rated higher than UNLV. So they will need double digit scoring from at least 2 but more likely 3 of the frosh or Cooper if they want to win any games in the B1G this year.

I can see this happening later in the season if they don't get too discouraged or beat down, but not sure about the early conf games as they've only had one game so far this year where 3 frosh scored over 40 combined, but that was against a crappy team.

If both Battle and Garcia come back next year, the team could do MUCH better as the return of Ihnen and Fox, along with the addition of 3 new highly anticipated frosh would add both additional scoring capabilities and much needed depth that is sorely missing this year.

I'm predicting this year and the next two to be very similar to 1988-90. The 88 squad struggled mightily but was very young, mostly sophs. They surprised everyone but me and got to the Sweet 16 in 89, and then just a last second missed but very makeable 3 point shot away from the Final Four in 1990.

Lots of good games going on tonight. What's the ACC/B1G challenge tally so far?

Looks like 3-3 yesterday and 0-2 the night before. So the B1G has to win 4 of the 6 games tonight to even it out it seems.

I think Michigan is NIT bound this year. No depth and not very talented either. Jett can score but that's about it. The defense is awful for everyone.

Minnesota will be very lucky just to get to the NIT. Far too young and no depth.

nothing lasts forever DEPT... :crutch:

Northwestern's 70-63 win tonight is their first back-to-back win over MSU since 1960 (or 1962, I forget)...

Didn't Nebraska pull off a huge upset tonight as well?

Remind me again, wasn't the B1G supposed to be down this year???

Purdue's killing it. That center of theirs is unstoppable.

Now the Illini take down #2 ranked Texas???

And friggin Iowa is hanging with Duke?

I think 12 of the 14 teams are ranked Top 50 in the Sagarin and 12 of 14 are ranked Top 60 in kenpom.

Holy shit!!!

BIG is trending up in college sports, me thinks Minny is trending up as well, overall.

Easily worst team in BIG
That's not that big of an insult considering the B1G had 12 teams ranked in the Top 50 of the Sagarin and close to that in other computer rankings. Andy Katz had around 9 in his Top 36 power rankings.

So yes, Minnesota is arguably the worst team in the B1G right now. They were the worst in 1987 & 1988, too, then they grew up and were much better in 1989 & 1990. Got to the Sweet 16 and Elite 8. This group of frosh could do the same in 1-3 years.

Maybe the Michigan football program can absorb the basketball program at this point. Embarrassment.
