Izzo's guys took down Nebraska 74-56 on Tuesday... just beat scUM (starring Slappy Howard and the Herpettes) 59-53 in as slow & ugly a contest as you can imagine... now travel to Wisconsin next Tuesday.

Five B1G teams are now 3-1 (Purdue 14-1; Wisconsin 11-3; MSU 11-4; Rutgers 11-4; scUM 9-6)

Happy to note this season's turned out to be lots more fun than anticipated.

Go Green

That's not that big of an insult considering the B1G had 12 teams ranked in the Top 50 of the Sagarin and close to that in other computer rankings. Andy Katz had around 9 in his Top 36 power rankings.

So yes, Minnesota is arguably the worst team in the B1G right now. They were the worst in 1987 & 1988, too, then they grew up and were much better in 1989 & 1990. Got to the Sweet 16 and Elite 8. This group of frosh could do the same in 1-3 years.

This Gopher team fucking blows

And yet they beat #24 in the NET ranked OSU in Ohio, right?

Team dominated by frosh and short bench in part because of injuries. Entire starting lineup comes back next year and the injuried players and two 4 star recruits, one whose ranking moved way up recently, top ten was it?

I'm fine with waiting a year and laughing when they win games like the OSU game.

Big 10 sucks anus in Men's basketball. At least they look good on the women's side.

Purdue's ranked #1 in Massey's Rating.
6 in the Top 30. 8 in Top 40. 10 in Top 50.
12 in Top 54.

Sagarin has PU ranked #5.
6 in the Top 26. 8 in Top 34. 11 in Top 50.
12 in Top 54.

That's not sucking anus.

I think Michigan should just quit and take the year off. Embarrassing.

Holtmann gets one more year after this with his next class. These results are unacceptable.

Going to be tight coming up. A lot of middling Big 10 teams have rough schedules to end the season and need to go better than .500

strength or comparably mediocre? as of this posting, with 3 games to go, 6 B1G teams (including MSU) with conference records of 9-7 are tied for 4th place behind Purdue, Northwestern and Indiana. Millions upon millions of living B1G alumni have been anxiously, strenuously avoiding any semblance of interest in or support for their respective basketball teams this season. wtf

The B1G sucked ass this year in the Big Dance, but what major conf didn't?

The Pac only got 3 or 4 in and all but UCLA lost in the 1st round and UCLA won't be in the Pac for much longer.

The Big 12 got 2 into the Elite 8, but one of those 2 won't be in the Big 12 much longer and KSU got beat by the lowest seeded team still in the tourney.

The mighty ACC only got 1 team into the Sweet 16. Heck, it only got 2 into the round of 32, compared to the B1G's 5, lol.

The SEC did get 3 teams into the Sweet 16, but none of them got into the Elite 8.

Seems the no fb BE conf had had the best tournament so far with 3 in the Sweet 16 and 2 in the Elite 8 and at least 1 in the Final Four.

Hardly says anything about the B1G, but more about the changing landscape of college basketball. Seems NIL and the transfer portal has evened the playing field some and allowed no fb schools to maybe concentrate their resources on cbb? But it's only one season and we're still not past the whole COVID effect which probably benefits smaller schools more as lots of blue blood program's players leave early and so those teams don't benefit as much from having 5th and 6th year seniors?

Give it another 2-3 years and the B1G will be back to being one of the top 2 conferences on average every year with far fewer 5th and 6th year seniors out there and UCLA and possibly Oregon bolstering it's # of quality bb programs. Not saying that will lead to the conf winning a title, but some trips to the Final Four will hopefully happen.

not sure about the rest of the conference, but MSU should be a contending national player again next season thanks to returning starters - and the country's #3 recruiting class.

5* Xavier Booker is top 10 awesome... but 4* Coen Carr is the player guaranteed to drop jaws (may be State's next Jason Richardson.)

Last year MSU's preseason ooc games included Gonzaga, Kentucky, Villanova, Alabama and Notre Dame.
This year MSU's preseason ooc games include Tennessee, Duke, Butler, Arizona and Baylor.

Looks like State and Purdue are the two biggest threats the B1G has to offer this year (they meet only once...02.MAR.2024)... State is absolutely loaded with returning stars and great recruits... Purdue's got Zach Edey (nuff said.)

Season starts next Wednesday at Breslin with tiny Hillsdale College (who will earn enough to fund their entire athletics programs for the year)... lol... no doubt though, this inconsequential game will be sold out... everybody wants to see how the old freaks blend with the new freaks... repeat after me: Coen Carr, Coen Carr, Coe

Purdue-Arkansas was a classic as well, though not for Maui relief. Hope the major conferences keep doing these charity exhibition games. It's a win/win for all parties involved.
