3) Another name in the mix: I had a brief conversation with Brad McCrimmon this morning about his coaching future. McCrimmon sounds excited about the possibilities he hopes will surface with five teams still in the hunt for NHL head coaches.

The Red Wings describe the decision to not renew McCrimmon's contract as "mutual" and have nothing but good things to say about McCrimmon and the three years he spent assisting Mike Babcock.

Dallas, Minnesota, New Jersey, Ottawa, and Florida continue to patiently consider their options believed to include, Kirk Muller, Craig MacTavish, Peter DeBoer, Ken Hitchcock, Guy Carbonneau, Mike Haviland, Mike Keenan, Michel Therrien, Cory Clouston, Kevin Dineen (Portland-AHL), Kurt Kleinendorst (Binghamton-AHL), and now Brad McCrimmon among them.

Failing a head coaching opportunity, It's hard to imagine McCrimmon won't be sought after for one of the various assistant coaching jobs that are available as well.

Sherbs, do tell? I'd imagine an understudy to babcock couldn't be the worst thing in the world, but that the same time a guy who understudy w lemaire, burns, and robinson was so who can really tell anymore

He essentially succeeded T-Mac, so I think maybe the bar was set a little high for McCrimmon.

Brad said he's ready for a new challenge. Did he not watch the D he was coaching this year? And not to mention......um, I don't know......maybe the departure of the greatest defensemen of his generation?! Hell, how is it not challenging trying to teach your mentally challenged 6th defensemen!?
