what do you guys think of this rule change? If a pitcher hits a batter in the head, regardless of situation, the pitcher is suspended a minimum of 1 game. The league has the discretion to increase the suspension, though.

No batter would intentionally get hit in the head, so there should not ever be that situation.

If it is intentional, the league can increase it, and the league SHOULD increase it.

If it is just a case of the pitcher being wild, well, he needs to tighten it up. A wild pitcher can be dangerous.

Are there any arguments against implementing this type of rule?

now does that actually mean 1 game pitching or just 1 game in general.. If it's just one game whats the point? Pitchers wouldn't worry hitting batters since it wouldn't affect them

Over time this could really become an advantage to the hitter.

Sure, but it is AT LEAST a game check.

Little named players would be scared by this... It really should be a game missed to actually pitch

How would you determine this?

well. for starting pitching... they actually would be suspended for their next actual start... Not "1" game

How so? Do you think hitters would actually lean into a pitch to get hit in the head?
Maybe I misunderstood your comment. I was implying that pitchers might become tentative to pitch inside altogether, especially ones that got suspended. It could open up the whole inside of the plate.

So 5-games for a SP? They would just push him back a day.

1-day for a reliever? Relievers don't pitch every day anyway.

Just make it 1 game, regardless, but based on situation and history, it can be increased.

Pitchers pitch every 5th day...... That's "1" game for them to be suspended...

players play everyday and one game it actually means something to them, not to an actual starting pitcher

If someone can't avoid the head, then they shouldn't be pitching inside anyway.

I am also not recommending any change to HBP on the arm, hand, leg, side, etc. Only head shots.

Suspending a RP for 5 days is harsh. And paycheck-wise that is REALLY harsh. Also remember that teams are not allowed to replace a suspended player on the roster (I don't think PED suspensions count for this rule).

And by the way, I am not sure how I feel about this proposal. I am legit opening it for discussion...

I'm talking only about SPs

But again, all you are really doing with that (assuming a SP) is pushing his next start back one day, but will really his pocketbook hard. Harder than my intention for this to be (seeing as the vast majority of these would be unintentional)

How so? They only pitch every 5th day? Suspended for 1 start doesn't hurt them in the wallet anymore

So are you recommending that the league get involved with game management of the teams? Do I understand you properly?

Here is a scenario...

On game 1, Bumgarner hits a player in the head.

Under my proposal, he would be suspended for game 2, but still be available to pitch his next start in game 6.

Under your proposal, he is suspended only for game 6? Or he simply is unable to START game 6?

You asked for opinions... I am giving you one...

YES... Bumgarner MISSES Game 6 (the ENTIRE game, hence 1 game suspension)

I am not arguing, I am trying to clarify. I just want to understand what you are saying.
