The much requested thing is actually happening, the franchise is going to Japan. Just a cinematic trailer so far but it still looks cool. Some details:

-dual protagonists
-map size similar to Origins
-release date is November 15

Thats interesting. My first thought before seeing what was going on was 'lol they're making Ghost of Tsushima again' but based on everything I'm seeing it sounds like they're making a cinematic Ubisoft Tenchu game. The guy/girl missions thing was done in Syndicate but IIRC everyone liked the stealth girl more than the guy in that game. Having a big black dude in Japan is either going to be the coolest thing ever or genuinely cringe with almost no middle ground.

This is definitely on my radar. I feel that Odyssey fans and Mirage fans are very different players. Im not sure what 'Assassins Creed' really is in 2024.

Fwiw, the black samurai is based on a real person. And based on the trailer, I'm gonna guess the woman is gonna have more traditional stealth/assassin skillset and the samurai is gonna have a more slasher Odyssey type skillset. My guess is you can choose to play as either but there will be certain mission where you have to play as one or the other. If its like that, my personal game play still will probably have me playing more as the woman shinobi.

Yeah, and that seems consistent with Syndicate. Most people will want to play the assassin game as the assassin I'd imagine.

I hope they fix all the issues with the controls. As much as I love Valhalla, it's always hard to come back to after playing other games with much smoother control systems.

You'd think so but there's a good chunk of the fan base that really loves Odyssey. I don't get it either. It's such a departure from the play style that its basically a different game. Maybe people just really wanted to slash some fools up as a Spartan

Yeah, Odyssey was a big action game at a time when I think we needed a big goofy action game. The two big games that year were Red Dead Redemption 2 and God of War and they both took themselves pretty seriously.

For me, Ghost of Tsushima was an 8.5/10 type of game. There is a real space for AC Shadows to do things better. Better enemy variety, better late game combat, better pacing early on. That said, Ubisoft seems to be leading with its story beats and its going to have to work hard to even match GoT imo. The female character in Shadows is probably going to be the one compared to Jin for GoT and I suspect thats going to be tough.

Yasuke, on the other hand...kind of a blank slate. Japan has done a couple of takes on him and they usually go for 'cool badass' and I'm hoping thats what Ubisoft goes for. If they go for stoic plank of wood then that might be disappointing. Ubisoft is going out of their way to show a non traditional ninja and samurai in a traditional setting. Hopefully they remember to lean into 'fun' with the game's design.

The ninja gameplay looks so much better than the samurai gameplay. Its not even close based on the preview.

I actually thought the opposite. Stealth is usually my preferred play style with these games as I mentioned before, but seeing both in action, I definitely plan on playing the samurai style more than I planned originally. It looks really bad ass just smashing people up. Overall, the majority will probably still be stealth for me but it'll be a lot closer than I thought

Delayed until Feb 14.

Press release throws Star Wars Outlaws under the bus a bit citing slower sales than they expected but if you read between the lines of the full press release, what they're really doing is the game is still buggy as hell and instead of releasing it like they did Outlaws (and all of Ubisoft's games), they delayed it to "polish" it some more.

Looks like Ubisoft might actually be learning something. They've trained their fans to not buy the games at release because A) They're buggy and require multiple updates to correct things over the first month and B)If you wait a couple months after release, there's usually steep discounts so you end up paying less money while getting a fully patched and functioning game.

A really common thing to do I've noticed is that most companies release their heavy hitter in Feb, release nothing in the summer, and then discount that heavy hitter in Nov. I would go as far to say that its become the industry standard over the past 8 years. Maybe if you have something that 'cant miss' like God of War Ragnarok or Cyberpunk or Mario then you release it before Xmas at full price.

To a certain extent, Assassin's Creed IS can't miss when it comes to sales. They could release it next to Christmas. That said, Outlaws maybe has them spooked because maybe they thought Star Wars Outlaws was can't miss and Star Wars has been massively over-saturated the past 5 years and I think consumers weren't looking for a new one unless it was 10/10.

It appears that Ubisoft's stock took another big hit and part of Ubisoft plans on going on strike about remote working policy.

I get the feeling that Ubisoft is quickly going to become the company that makes Assassin's Creed and Farcry and everyone else is getting laid off.

I was a big fan of AC I did not like Odyssey and Syndicate was just ok although I did enjoy the story and character being different than past stories. Being an Assassin in Japan as a Ninja isn't very original to me especially coming off of Ghost of Teshima. The assassins creed chronicles portable game I thought would have been good console games. I remember one was a female assassin in China along with the other two being a male Indian and male Russian assassins.

I thought it was pretty cool that Capcom made resident evil 5 depicted in Africa. Typically RE games are in gloomy, dark, city like atmosphere and with 5 they made it bright desert Africa.

I have a couple of issues with RE5 but if we are talking visuals, the game looks way better modded it remove its Green/Yellow filter. It does in fact make the game look bright and its much better off that way.

Funny that RE5 came up because the rumor is that Assassin's Creed Shadows might be co-op. Also interesting to bring up because RE5 basically saved Capcom at a time when they weren't doing well as a company and I still get the feeling that AC Shadows might actually sell well even as the rest of the company burns down.
