They should have held Shipley out so he could be pupped.......another example of mismanagement from the medical staff.....

I think you need 4 wide and 2 underneathweapons incase one gets hurt or for smoke and mirrors on certain offensive plays.

I personally do not think it is an either or situation for Hawk and Shipley.

However, with Tate being discussed as the #2 and clear cut to win the job and to be used on special teams...one of these guys will have to get cut then...

Binns
Sanu
Jones

Which means Whalen is alreay as good as cut.

I say keep only 3 RBs and 7 WRs.

one of those guys may be eligible for the practice squad, I honestly don't think anyone would want Binns if he was put on waivers.

I don't know what it is about Tate, but I cannot stand watching him play. The punt returns were awful so maybe that is it. But I keep thinking that if he is our #2, then we still only have 1 good receiver because they refuse to put in baby Hawk unless it's 3 rd and 5+.

I love baby Hawk so I am a homer when it comes to him. The way he gets yards after catches was great to watch and he kept drives alive for us.

yea, Hawkins and Leanord (sp?) are always pretty good on 3rd down, so not sure why we can't get them on the field more often.

I suppose they don't like matching Hawkins up on the side with a starting CB and just look for possible mis-matches? this isn't Bratowski-ball anymore.

I say keep BGE, Scott and Leonard at the RB and keep Green, Binns, Hawkins, Sanu, Jones, Shipley and Tate. That solves that whole problem.

I think we keep Peerman as a RB though, otherwise that makes Leonard that full time fullback. Not sure we need Scott unless BJGE gets hurt, and Leonard can be the emergency FB.

From the videos of Sanu, he looks like a good slot receiver, but he looks big enough to be a starting receiver. My belief is they are going to make him "earn the position" in camp, otherwise they will give it to Binns as he is big enough to block when needed.

They will keep 4 RB's as Scott is the primaryback-up, Leonard 3rd down specialist, and Peerman on special teams.

The fact of the matter is, Shipley is on the outside looking in if they plan on keeping 6 WR. While I think we all agree when healthy, he's a solid WR, he's not healthy and while he's still playing catch-up physically, the rest of the group is pulling away and will be more than ready to hit the ground running at the open of the season.

If I had to bet:

Green
Tate
Binns
Sanu
Jones
Hawkins

Whalen and Shipley, tough to lose, but those 6 are currently healthy, and are showing more than either of Whalen or Shipley, and I suspect that will also be the case as pre-season moves along.

I'm going to make a prediction

Sanu wins #2 position by end of preseason
He is a fine athlete, broke one of Fitzgerald's records in college, just very hard to scout or predict because he sort of played a "Tebow back" roll in college.

Binns goes to waivers and either put back on PS or picked up by another team, unless they pull a stunt and put Shipley back on pup.

we may end up sending Tate away, but they love having that vet. If Sanu doesn't convince them, they may yet go after a free agent WR when the price is reasonable after week 1. I think they will settle on Sanu at #2

They can't. Once you practice you are not allowed to be placed back on the PUP.

This is where the NFL needs an in-season DL like baseball.

The years that we have gone without a fullback have been disasterous to the running game. I don't want to go back to those days where we use the tight end as a fullback...... Can't take all the missed blocks!

Isn't it that you can be PUP'ed but have to miss the first 6 games? Had he not practiced and been PUP'ed, then he could've been brought back at any time.

That's the way I understood it.

I didn't say don't keep a FB, I said keep only 3 RB's. Don't keep Peerman and keep the extra WR.

I guess they are just waiting to see if anyone gets hurt before reaching a decision, whoever finishes with the worst effort gets put on waivers (or released) and put on the practice squad if cleared and eligible. If they are saying Shipley is slow, then he may be pegged as having the worst effort.

I still can't believe Armon Binns is better than the other receivers we have, it has to be hobspin, I'd have to see it for myself.

Sorry, I didn't know you weren't including a fullback in your total. I started having flashbacks to Dan Coats (or whoever that awful tight end playing fullback was).

I'd be okay with releasing Peerman, but I have to say he did bring a lot to special teams last season. We'd have to make that up somewhere.

I agree with that, but I think Jones, Hawk and even Shipley could be used on ST. i just don't like keeping a guy who will never play on actual offense just for ST. We have enough of those on D.

Maybe they should just put Shipley on IR this year. If he's not 100% his roster spot will take up somebody that can contribute more. Whatever happens, I want to see Marvin Jones stick to the roster. I think he can be a very good WR in time.
