I hate that "young player" excuse. He's been playing since the 6th grade and at every level he's been taught to secure the ball. he's at the highest level of the profession now. How can he not know that by now?

You have a point, but you're forgetting that from probably middle school through college he got by on his athleticism alone and didn't really need to pay attention to that ball security stuff when he was the fastest kid on the field. Which is why young players have so many ups and downs in the NFL, because now almost everyone is a fantastic athlete.
