I dunno. To think that HS coaches (especially in Football and Basketball) don't have any influence over where their kids go..that's being naive IMO. While I respect the fact that you were a HS soccer coach for many years Rocky..I am surprised that you are kinda dodging this fact. They don't always go where the coach says to go..but they will certainly listen. You even said yourself that you "recommended" certain schools over others to your kids. Bayside is to UVA as some schools are to VT. Some of the Florida schools, notably Atlantic, and even some schools in Virginia, (Brookville (LT, ZM)), Hampton (TT, DN, MW) South County, Robinson in the past.. and others have strong relationships with the VT coaching staff. I am sure this is the same all over the country. Now as far as Bayside goes..I wouldn't say it is a UVA pipeline yet (as you have stated), but I agree with TAE that it is a trend and if things continue (Blanding and others in the near future) it COULD become a UVA pipeline. BUt UVA is going to have to start winning first..or these kids will start to realize that ML is all talk..

A few more years and it won't matter..We will beat the shit outta London 3-4 more times, he will get shitcanned and UVA will be back in the gutter again. They still have not shown many anything offensively in years..until they do, they will always be 2nd in this state...

I would get my U17, U18, and U19 teams to play the college teams, in friendlies. The VT coach and I would put together tournaments annually at Tech, consisting of the top teams in VA, MD, and NC. Thats how we got them exposure, and that was the best thing I ever did to showcase my players.

I had tons of VT swag. The VT coach would come to the beach and my team would get a full week of his coaching. For pay of course. If this was illegal, no one knew or cared.

The result? None of my players went to VT. A number approaching 10 went to W&M, who I would play annually at their place, and the assistants would come to our practices. I coached travel teams, and state ODP teams, not HS teams.

We did close to 10 tournaments annually, and had great exposure there also.

Maybe thats the difference between soccer and football recruiting. The HS accolades meant next to nothing, while the travel team exposure was what soccer coaches looked for.

All I know is, I never had any influence on them on school choice, not even in the slightest.

They did almost unanimously hate their HS coaches, and none of the HS coaches were involved in their school choices at all. It all went through me. When coaches went to tournaments to scout, it was my roster they used, not a HS roster. They didnt even really know where these kids went at that time, they only knew what travel team they played on.

So, maybe its apples and oranges, and Ill just shut up, lol.

All I can say is that if the coach is not steering them to UVA then that is a WHOLE lotta coincidence. I think there's something going on myself. All I'd like to know is what is being said. Is he speaking from personal experience? Did he play football at UVA? I know if I was a player I would not be taking everything he said as gospel because I'm a cynic. Plus I'd be paying more attention to my possible future coaches because HS coach is going to be doing diddly squat from there on out in my career

Why is it that every time another school gets a big football recruit their fans feel like its necessary to come on our boards and brag about it? We don't give a flying fuck about your verbal, cause we weren't in the race for him anyways. I'd say a lot of folks come over here because their boards are pretty dead. I dont think Ballboy was "bragging" someone said that Nkemdiche gave clemson a verbal and he provided a link. There was some friendly ribbing between he and matt and he posted the info to back up his argument. BTW i dont mind hearing about in conference recruiting because even if we arent recruiting them its possible that it could somehow effect our recruiting and at the very least could be a guy we have to play against in the future.
