I'm not a big believer in the Peyton choking label in the play-offs. He hasn't been as good as the regular season, for sure but everyone knows that Indy had a mediocre defense and a sub-par running game which makes every QB press the issue and make mistakes. As for last season, the Ravens were winning it all the day Ray Lewis announced his "last ride" and Flacco was great in the play-offs. You can point to the int by Peyton but I honestly think that Ravens team was unstoppable.
I think the Broncos are the best team in a pretty average AFC, (funny, a couple years back, we were calling the NFC the weaker conference). But, until they actually play a top tier defense, we won't know how good they are. They are good but I doubt this good. Right now, they look as unstoppable as the 07 Patriots but that team lost the SB to a great defense (the last time the G-men started 0-2). I don't think Peyton and the Broncos can sustain this pace, especially when the weather starts getting bad.

I agree that stats can only tell so much of the story but with Peyton I think you really do have to look at the whole picture. Such as in the playoffs Peyton has been a part of 3 overtime games yet has lost all 3 coin tosses. Now according to NFL statistics the team that wins the coin toss in overtime wins 60% of the time...Peyton has lost all 3 of those games. He has also lost by his kicker missing a game tying and game winning field goal so that is 2 more losses. He has also gotten what I would consider the bad luck draw in his career especially compared to that of Tom Brady. Defensive rankings on average for Peyton has been that in the playoffs he has faced on average the number 7 ranked defense in the NFL where Tom Brady has faced on average around the 10th best defense in the NFL yet Peyton has put up the better QBR of the two. Somehow though Brady is considered the better playoff quarterback based solely on winning and nothing else.

So again if you just take Peyton Manning and what he has done for his team in the playoffs compared to others greats throughout history most would consider Peyton one of the greats all-time (which most still do) but they would even consider him a great playoff quarterback.

good for them, but i don't to me he is one of the most overrated QBs in NFL history. I rank he above Elway and Namath all time but i can't put him above guys like Brady and Montana, because they are guys that also have great stats and well more postseason success. IMO

Broncos have 90 points in 2 games. Are they peaking too soon or do the Giants just suck?

The Broncos will be measured by what they do in January. Most people had them pegged as the class of the AFC coming into the season, and they've certainly done nothing to dissuade anyone from that opinion. A nice sign was the way the running game looked yesterday. As long as the Broncos have a threat of a run, that will open up the play action where Manning has been lethal.

The defense is only going to get better once Champ Bailey and Von Miller return. And although the AFC West looks much improved, I still don't think anyone in the division can keep pace with the Broncos offense. The Broncos look like a 13 or 14 win team to me.

But again, none of that matters because Denver will be judged by what they do in the playoffs. Anything less than a Super Bowl appearance and this season will be a disappointment.

I think that sums it up nicely. Personally, however, I would change the bolded word to "win".

I don't think losing the Super Bowl would mean a failed season from Denver. The NFC has some really good teams. But there isn't a team in the AFC that should beat them in the playoffs.

He has also put his teams in position to lose more than a lot of other QBs. Even last year with a performance that was solid overall, he made an astoundingly stupid throw to give the ravens the ball on his half of the field and less than 20 yards to drive for a field goal.

I don't buy the "choker" thing, but he has personally come up short far too often for me to seriously consider him for GOAT.

As for this year, the Broncos are the easy favorite out of the AFC right now, and IMO the favorite in the NFL at the moment.

Those two names you listed above him I can't argue with you on. They both are considered top 5 quarterbacks of all time and with good reason.

Now most overrated I have some trouble understanding how you come to that conclusion but hey again you are entitled to your opinion. My guess is you are basing that off of his playoff record and nothing else so if that is the case then there is no reason to discuss this with you because well that is about as ignorant of a thought as a person can have when speaking of the NFL and how to judge a player but hey again you are entitled to your opinion.

I understand your thought on this. I think this boiled down to Peyton just trying to do too much. The Broncos were down to their 3rd or 4th string running back for the game so there was no threat of any kind of run game and Peyton just tried too hard to make a play. That is all on him. I will say though the fact that the Broncos defense that was ranked 2nd in the NFL allowed 35 points in regulation should be part of the problem in Peyton should never have been in that situation in the first place. In reality that loss can be put on a lot of players on the Broncos, the coaching staff, and some interesting calls by the officials. It was the worst game the Broncos played all year long on defense and it just so happened to be at the worst possible moment.

I could go through and find at least 5-6, and probably more, where Peyton is primarily to blame. Call it what you want, but he is not consistent with the game on the line in the playoffs. He racks up the stats against mediocre teams, but it feels like too many close games get lost on his mistakes. I would still take him over a lot of guys in the NFL, but comparing him to other greats (which is the legacy he has earned), he falls short IMO.

i say most overrated because many say he is the best ever and i just don't agree with that for the obvious reason that i mentioned and others here have mentioned. Is he great yes, is the the best ever hell no.

I can agree with that. I do not call him the greatest ever so I guess in my book that is why it is hard to see how you come to that conclusion. I do have him in my top 5 of all time quarterbacks and I think he deservedly needs to be included in that group.

Favre is also mentioned as the best ever and Peyton at his worst is better than Favre at his "very good".

Yeah, everybody is quick to lay last year on Peyton's shoulders and yes, he deserves some heat for the late pick, but that so-called good defense gave up a bunch of big plays (late) that were just God-awful. It's a team effort, win or lose.

Unless Peyton gets hurt, I expect them to represent the AFC in the Super Bowl.

I think they are the best team in the NFL after Week 2.

Course, the best team in September isn't always the best team in February.
