Anyone for reducing NBA 1st round from best-of-7 to best-of-5?

I haven't watched a NBA playoff game yet this season, probably due to the lack of urgency. I think the NBA should go back to the "Best-of-5" format for the first round, just like in the 90's.
Anyone up for doing that?

Absolutely. This is silly, though there's no way the NBA (league, owners, players) or TV walk away from the additional revenue.

Should they? Yes.

Will they? No.

As Hammer pointed out, extra games mean extra money. No way the owners are going to give that up. We're probably lucky they aren't thinking of going to 9 game series.

Should they? Probably. Although I have no problem with a seven game series in the first round either. I could take either one. But I would favor a five-game series because the Playoffs are too damn long in the NBA. I think it would be worth considering reducing the second round to a five-game series as well.

I actually love how long the NBA season goes. Remember there are no sports to watch after the NBA finish for about two months except MLB. July is the worse sport month for that reason. When the only sport to watch is MLB its pretty depressing.

The problem with shortening series' is that you would get more upsets. I love watching the mayhem unfold in the NCAA tourny, but June is reserved for the 2 best teams in the world. That is what makes the best of 7 so great. The best team almost always wins.

I'll let you know when the Lakers make the playoffs again. Might be a while.

As a fairly neutral fan over these last few year I don't really have an opinion.

UGH. I hate that time of year. Mid July, come home looking for something to watch and its nothing but a random boring baseball game or Pawn Stars reruns from 2009. This is why people drink.

I hate July. It's freaking hot and it's the one month where I have to put my wife's honey-do list ahead of my own interests.

Yeah, I always liked the best of 5 series back in the 90's as well. Think they could change back to that.
