That is a crazy amount for Bryz. Very shocking the Flyers went from not getting a netminder to overpaying for one.

I don't want Bryz in Philadelphia... period... IMO, NHL goaltender is the most important position in all of sports, yes even more so than a QB, and I don't want philadelphia to get one of the best out there... goaltending wins games... and I don't want them to win... like the Caps... let them have goaltending issues while the Pens deal with winger issues.

I'm okay with them signing Bryz...FOR SEVEN MILLION. *Hearty Laugh* and people judge the Pens for giving Fleury 5 mil. 7 mil? Seriously? HAH

Well he hasn't done shit in the playoffs if that helps. Of course this will be the best team in front of him so YMMV.

not really surprising. Philly has been a goalie graveyard since Hextall left.
Vancouver was the same story... Philly overpaid to (hopefully) not have to think about that anymore,
in the same way as Vancouver 'over-termed' to lock up Luongo.

And if 7 mill is just salary, he'd be tied for 3rd highest, behind Luo and Lundy.

fwiw, last year's salary was an anomaly (kind of a signing bonus, if you will for Lou).
His next several years are at $6.71m

I see your points... a lot of money... the Pens average 2.8 mil at the goaltending position... if this signing goes through, the Flyers will average over 4 million on their goaltenders, or there about....

this signing will be all about winning the Cup next year...

Agreed JA. This is for next year. But hamstringing yourself for one year is rough. 7 years is a looooong time, and this guy hasn't stepped up in the postseason yet. Who knows. Time will tell

Holmgren says they're not close to a deal yet, so these rumors are premature I guess.

Well that's good for the Flyers, because $7 million is too much. I agree with JA that goaltender is the most position in sports, and really the only position which can almost solely determine the outcome of a game, and I do think Bryzgalov is a top-5 goalie, but the current market is set for top-notch goaltenders at about $5 million. It's always a poor choice to break the market by overpaying because you're not going to get full value back for your dollars, and you're straining the market for every other team, as well as your own team a few years down the road.

lol from puckdaddy

There may be a tandem of Russian goalies in Philadelphia. Could you imagine yourself as a mentor for Sergei Bobrovsky(notes)?

Bryz:"I myself need to learn! What kind of a mentor am I? What are you talking about?"

seriously edgy interview lol

It is sad about Nabokov. At the World Championships [in Bratislava] he damaged his career. You could say he was set up. An unprepared goaltender was put on the ice.

Bryz: "Why set up? What, he didn't know where he was going? Didn't he want to go to the World Championships? Of course he wanted to! Only Nabokov is at fault for what's going on with him. No one else. The same I can say about any person."

You don't ever drink…

Bryz: "Why, I did. Until I was 17."

Strange, because 17 is usually when people start to.

Bryz: "I had everything the other way around. I even remember the day — November 7. I got so drunk. And then decided to quit. I realized that I had to choose — either hockey or alcohol."
