for the Sabres - Thrashers game last night in Hotlanta? 8,820 patrons. Now I realize it's a mid week game and we're right in the middle of baseball playoffs, but this is still quite troubling.

Wow! Where were all the Sabres fans now living in the south? This is a bit shocking indeed.

Now let's take a look at the Preds - local community ownership with a very good GM in David Poile and the team has built a loyal and solid fanbase.

So it figures that was the team targeted for relocation first a couple years back.

Well it all starts and ends with stable ownership and competent management. Unfortunately, the Thrashers have had neither (at least Rick Dudley is now the GM instead of that clown Waddell).

It's too bad too, because I do think Atlanta would get a good turnout if their team was ever consistently decent enough. They're on the right track, but it might end up being too little too late.

/edit: On the bright side for Atlanta it looks like Ponicks is still the first franchise in line for relocation. They had a tremendous year last year and could only sell 2,000 season tickets this season (wait is that number still a lie?). Ponicks has never made money and if they didn't make any last year I can't imagine them making money ever. No owner is going to put up with that for very long. If Atlanta can make the playoffs this year (I think they will) and then maybe pull off an upset it could increase the fanbase and give the owners a little extra money that they haven't had really ever. It would be a big boost for the franchise.

This is really what Bettman wasted millions of owners dollars on eh? Ponicks is a lost cause. It really is, I don't believe there's any way of saving that franchise. The Coyotes are gone, it looks like it's gonna take a few more years, but owners are not gonna put up with losing tens of millions each and every year. Unless of course, Bettman plans to eventually bankrupt all NHL owners by using their cash to keep the Coyotes in Ponicks until there's no money left. I wouldn't put it past him.

puckdady writes this:

If these numbers aren't rising by December, then we've got a crisis. As it stands now, we've just got an embarrassment. Especially when Canadian journalists like Jeff Marek are given the chance to note that a Hamilton/Manitoba AHL game (6,116) nearly out-attended the Coyotes last night.

is it piling on if i say the Tuesday WHL game between the Vancouver Giants and the Kelowna Rockets in the bustling mega-metropolis of Kelowna drew 6077?

Whatever fans are in attendance here are certainly not happy with their team's performance so far tonight. Suddenly the Flames can finish. Suppose it had to happen sometime.

This is why I have a road trip planned down to Atlanta to watch the Caps play. Tickets Price for lower level+Gas Price=less than Caps Tickets in the Upper level

You gotta hit up the season ticket holders on Craigslist at the start of the season. I got half a dozen games for $28/ticket + tickets vs. the Pens for under face value.
