He shouldn't have needed the timeout to get that.

Plenty of things shouldn't have to had be done in hindsight either for every single coach in existence. Andy Reid saw something he didn't like and called a timeout. A first down makes the probability of the Colts winning at that point rather low if clock is managed properly.

I think it's tough to put this loss on Reid. He had a great game plan that got the Chiefs up big without their best offensive player. If he keeps calling aggressive calls and Smith turns it over or the Chiefs don't run much clock, he'd be criticized for not trying to shorten the game witha huge lead. But if he gets conservative, then he's criticized for not sticking with what got them the huge lead. Ultimately I think the majority of the blame should go to what was supposed to bea good defense.

Now this i agree with. They went vanilla with the play calling way too soon...

Because the talent he assembled isn't part of "coach of the year". Any mildly respectable coach is in a good position with that defensive talent.

So winning 11 games and getting a wild card berth with 8 pro bowlers is more impressive than winning 13 games and getting the highest seed with "only" six pro bowlers?

Most expected 6-7 wins out of the Chiefs. Not even Chiefs fans for the most part outside of the homers thought they could win even 9 game. The Seahawks were a trendy SB pick for many people.

HAHAHAAH. Nobody cared about Thomas' catch now and nobody ever will. What people still do care about is the ONLY 7-9 team to EVER make playoffs... which is HISTORICAL and RELEVANT. There is ONE team in NFL HISTORY to make the playoffs at 7-9 and that's Seattle. AND NOBODY gave them ANY chance of winning against a former SUPER BOWL CHAMP and they did.... with one of the most historic runs in NFL history.

Thomas' TD reception = Seahawks 7-9 playoff win vs. former SBOWL champs... LMFAO. God that mile high air really does you guys in at times.

Way overhyped in your head because you are a Seahawks fan. Reality.... Nobody gives a shit about that game except for Seahawks fans. No disrespect, just mt pov.

I had em in the playoffs the day Reid was hired. Your defense is top notch, Charles is elite and Smith plays within himself. Regardless of the inexcusable loss today Id say it was a very successful season. Most everyone should have KC as a playoff team, preseason, next season. If not a challenger for the AFC West.

And that may be where they would have finished had they not had the easiest schedule in the NFL, even when you include two games against the 13-3 Broncos. Their SOV was only .335 and they still only managed to rank 21st in total offense and 24th in total defense. All this was done with 8 pro bowlers?

15th in total points on offense.
T-6th in PPG
T-5th in PPG allowed.

Good try.

2 plays away from beating the Chargers twice. You are vastly overrating SOS/V. The Broncos are 3-3 against teams above .500 for example; does anyone seriously think they aren't better than the Chargers or Indy? 1 game samples are really not that revealing in reality and become increasingly more difficult with each game between a single opponent. And because they aren't that revealing, that is why the playoffs are in reality, a giant crapshoot every year.

21st in total yards for
24th in total yards against

Do I think they aren't better than Indy and SD? Yes, they have now lost to both teams twice this year. KC finished the season with a 1-5 record against teams with winning records, and that one win was against Philly in week three when Vick was still under center.

But don't get me wrong. I don't think that they are awful, just overratted. I actually had them winning today. I thought there was a bs call where Indy was given a fumble recovery even though it looked like he didn't have possession until he was out of bounds

Coming from an eagles fan that is Andy's MO, has horrid clock management(burns timeouts like they are candy) and when you need your coach the most to step it up and lead by example he crumbles under the slightest amount of pressure and the team follows suit. I wached him for a decade in philly take us to the playoffs year in year out, a good majority of those games we were the favorite yet there is no trophies in our case and no rings to show for, good coach but not great and can never get to the top of the mountain.

The Chiefs are loaded with Pro-Bowl talent on both sides of the ball. They had all the appearances of having a magical season. But when it comes down to it - you are what your record says:

* They are 0-2 vs Chargers;
* They are 0-2 vs Colts;
* They lost their last 3 games of the year;
* They blew a 28 point lead with 1.5 quarters to go in the first round.

burning that time out after the two minute warning was tough, but it sure seemed like they felt they needed to see what the defense was gonna do.

I know we are not supposed to be using injuries as excuses, but you guys are taking into account losing all those players they did who did not return, including Charles. It seemed like they lost 7 or 8 guys.

that was more of what was too much to overcome.

Does BB take his final timeout after the 2 minute warning TO like Andy did?

Nuff said.
"An aside: Andy Reid wasn't being shitty at managing the clock; he was giving the offense a chance for the possible final play of Kansas City's season. The Chiefs only had one timeout, so they weren't going to stop the clock and get the ball back. Instead, Reid checked the defense, adjusted to that, and called an excellent play that gave Dwayne Bowe one-on-one coverage and a chance at the first down. Unfortunately, one of his feet landed out of bounds."

The above pretty much sums up as to why the TO was taken. Makes a lot of sense.

Except they already had single coverage on Bowe, BEFORE the timeout.

This is on Reid, and there is just no excuse for blowing that lead, with that amount of time left.

But why eat the TO when the seasons on the line? Either way KC wasn't getting the ball back if they failed to convert. Talking it over more seems like the more logical thing to do.

Attrition and injuries probably were a big deal for the Chiefs, they lost a lot of people throughout that football game.

But, the Colts were doing everything they could to give the Chiefs that game. I mean, the Colts turned the football over 4 times, 4 TIMES!! You don't win many playoff games turning the football over 4 times. Setting for field goals hurts.

Once the Colts started to climb back into the game just a little the Chiefs tightened up and play not to lose.
