Saw this on the general NFL forum

"NBC's Alex Flanagan tweeted Saturday that she's been talking to "more and more people" who believe rumors of Philip Rivers being traded by the Chargers "have legitimate legs."

As Flanagan noted, the Titans "need Rivers," in order for beleaguered GM Ruston Webster and coach Ken Whisenhunt to save their jobs. The Chargers would be a good fit for Marcus Mariota, going to a coach in Mike McCoy who's repeatedly shown the ability to craft his offense to maximize his quarterback's strengths. Any deal of Rivers to Tennessee would likely require a long-term agreement between the team and Rivers. The Titans would have to have that assurance from Rivers' camp before executing the trade. Rivers is entering the final year of his contract.

Wahooooo, so you're saying there's a chance...

Peter King reported just the opposite in his MMQB column this morning. He thinks Rivers is not going to be dealt now.

He also thinks that Tennessee may keep the pick and take Mariota for themselves, but makes clear that they are willing to deal it. They are waiting on a really good offer and apparently one has not happened yet. But people think it will in the next few days, from Cleveland, Philly or other suitors.

Whisenhunt is too good of an offensive mind with too much success with real QBs to risk his entire head coaching career on a half ass QB like Mariota. Peter King was told to write that by the Titans front office, otherwise known as a "leak." They need some people in the league to worry that they might take him to increase the value of that pick. If 3 teams want Mariota he has X value, if 4 teams want him he has X value +1.

Of course they are willing to deal it. They may have found themselves sitting on a gold mine. They've got to be giddy in that war room right about now. They have reason to believe they can add a ton of much needed talent to their team in a very short period of time.

I agree that the Titans are likely planting this information because people are probably calling their bluff, knowing they will either take someone else or trade MM.

If you think it's misdirection, then it's just as easy that any rumors of Rivers to the Titans could simply be for the Eagles to give up more in order to move up.

In my opinion, any time a team says "we like player X and want to draft him, but are willing to deal the pick for the right offer", then it just means that they don't really want to take player X. If so, then they wouldn't say that they are willing to deal the pick. The team should instead seem enamored with Mariota and make a team overwhelm them with an offer.

Not sure if you were disagreeing with me? But I agree with everything you said here.

Who said anything about mcnabb. I was thinking more about your evaluation of mike mcmahon who could make all the throws according to you.

LOL all the throws that mcnabb couldn't. IOW, throw a slant. You have been misremembering that one on purpose for years. Mcnabb couldn't throw a damn slant and it pissed me off. All I wanted was one slant. I got that from McMahon. He completed probably exactly one. Thankfully. So that's infinity times more than nabby did. I can't go 10 years without seeing one successful slant. It's just too much. Good thing Feeley threw a few in there those years too. Holy shit your boy mcnabb sucked. Funny how wrong you were about his success in Washington.

Someone is still carrying around a healthy McNabb obsession I see.

Only when it's brought up. Really brings me back to all those painful years of watching McNabb completely waste a top 5 defense.

I'm gonna venture a guess that he threw 1 completed slant. So, your evaluation of a qb is purely based on the slant? No wonder you thought guys like mcmahon, feely and kolb could play.

Not quite sure what you mean about washington though. I was happy to see him go at that point.
