Just trying to clarify that this team is now building primarily via the draft & should not have many of these type situations moving forward. Amerson is just a situation where likely he needed a change of scenery. He was not doing well with this team - probably best for the Redskins and Amerson that the situation work out like this.

Anyhow - why keep worrying about this? The Redskins have a pretty solid secondary now - move on. I would also dispute this claim that tons of players leave the Redskins & become stars elsewhere. Sure there are some but not as many as some think & again the same situation is true for most NFL teams.

The reason it keeps coming up...Amerson was still on his rookie contract and we cut him. He was cheap, we gave up on him, and now he plays elsewhere.

Yep. It happened - time to move on. If I believed that this was part of a trend moving forward I would be concerned. However - I don't see this as the case since I believe that the current FO has overall handled the team well (sure they have made some mistakes like most teams but the net gain has been good).

Like I said it could just be the Amerson needed a change of scenery. You can't just assume that he would done just as well in DC (for a variety of reasons - not just the scheme or coaches).

My issue with it is that Amerson had done well for this team. Did he struggle in picking up Joe Barrys defense, sure he did. But its a hard sell to say you are going to cut a guy two weeks into his third season on his rookie contract and say, well its just good business. Especially when that guy gets picked up and is tarting virtually the next week and does well. Now do we look better on paper without him?? After dropping $50 million guaranteed and a 3rd rounder on the position, we damn sure better look better is all I can say.

Hang in there - it should be fine. Not sure about the upcoming season since they are still rebuilding and the schedule is brutal. However - I see this team being elite in the years to come (assuming that Cousins keeps progressing).

Yeah we've been down this road before, we just have a difference of opinion. To me we have a guy who we have invested a 2nd round pick, cap space, and time developing and we watched him get beat fairly regularly, costing us big plays. When he plays well somewhere else it's the exact feeling of plunking down coin after coin at a slot machine for hours, leaving, and then seeing the guy who took your seat hit it big on his first coin.

DGF... thats the thing. In 2014 Amerson was a solid corner whom we all ( aside from Dean that is) Expected would continue to develop. Fast forward to 2015, New DC, new system. He struggles a bit, and we release him after week two. Not much regular beating you can take in two weeks as the #3 CB. Breeland outplayed him, so he got demoted.. I totally get that. Culliver was brought in as the big ticket item, so he as going to start.. I even get that. Cutting a guy with two years left on his rookie deal and having to commit $75 million and a 3rd rounder to the position.... just a bit of a hard sell for me is all. And based on his vastly improved performance with Oakland, you got to ask

1. Were we just impatient
2. Is it possible we were just misusing his skill set??

If the answer is #2... we might in fact be in trouble.

NP. If this type of thing happened say in the Zorn era I would be concerned. For now I see a team that is pretty solid & heading in the rt direction so I am not losing any sleep over this one. Oh well - can't wait for the real season to start so that we can talk about actual on the field stuff - not too far away.

I really like your posts, but I am kind of confused. Do you actually think that the Redskins are good or do you think they are terrible? I believe that they are doing a lot of good things now, but the posts that I read from you generally appear to be negative & critical of the organization (& during what I believe to be a pretty good time for this team). Maybe I don't read enough of your posts or I am reading this totally wrong. Help me out - thx.

Socal... I do actually see some positive. But I also am beyond the whole hope springs eternal phase of my 20's and 30's when it comes to this team. IM more into the show me phase. Just as i think Bruce Allen is a wiz kid when it comes to contracts, I think he sucks at talent evaluation and the few good players he did give us were more blind luck than skill. I fully admit SMGM is likely a whiz kid when it comes to evaluating and picking college players, which is why Im not nearly as upset today as I was draft weekend that we almost completely ignored the D-line. But I do have reservations about his skills when it comes to evaluating Free Agents, and players from the previous regime. So I guess I think we are average with the potential to be good. But I also think SMGM has let some good players walk because of his ultimate belief in his talent evaluation skills. Confidence is a good thing, arrogance not so much.

I totally agree on Bruce Allen, he is now where he should be. And I can see Shark's point on giving up on Amerson too early. He played OK his first year. Let's not get carried away on just how well he played but clearly showed promise. But there is no doubt he was bad in Barry's system and at the time I can see why they cut him. We are much better at corner now for sure but it still sucks to see our 2nd round pick helping another team.

Sounds good - I understand.

Sometimes we forget how young these guys are, takes the right kind of mentality and mentorship, in addition to talent, to have success as a good 'Football Player'
