Breaking: Broncos and Russell Wilson just reached agreement on a five-year, $245 million contract extension that includes $165 million guaranteed, sources tell ESPN.

Deal now ties Wilson to Denver for seven total years and $296 million. Another massive QB deal in the books.

Nice piece of work by the front office, new ownership and Wilson. It is right in line, but isn't a market reset or anything of the sort. Lets just hope Wilson is as advertised.

Looks like Broncos fans in the majority like this deal. Fans of other teams are skeptical that Russ isn’t on a downward trajectory.

They haven’t been asking the question the past couple years: Drew or Teddy?

He might physically be declining by a small margin, but his leadership and real time experience is ever growing. He is a championship caliber qb, and that’s all I care about.

Before seeing how he is in the new offense and with 2 years left on his current deal? He is 33.

Not all QB's can play into their late 30's, early 40's.

Well let's see here. His 113 wins (reg. season + playoffs) his first 10 seasons is the best all time. The Broncos aren't that bad of a team, they have talent on both sides of the ball. What they have been missing since 2015 is a competent QB.

And you sound just like wiggy suggesting RW's skill will erode overnight. Remember when he said LeBron's prime was over the second he went to Los Angeles?

Hell yesterday you posted some bullshit that Kobe should have won MVP in '05 for leading the Lakers to a 34-48 record while missing the playoffs. And in '06 the Laker only went 45-37.

In 2005 & 2006 the Suns had the best record in WC.

Home on! It's hilarious.

To me this is a huge steal for the Broncos. Had some saying that there is no way Wilson would take less guaranteed money than Watson. Well he came in even lower on the guaranteed than I thought he would. I thought it would be in the $180 million area. Throw in then the per year numbers are even lower than expected. Seems like Wilson just wanted to get a deal done and not handicap the team for the future.

This contract really sets them up well to have a ton of wiggle room cap wise to manipulate things when needed.

So just to give it a bit of context with Wilson's new deal. This year he is only taking up 7.7% of the cap. Next year that is supposed to be around 9.8%. I don't know how you can look at this deal and see anything but it being very team friendly.

Talked to a Seahawks fan today that told me he was happy to have Geno Smith at QB for far less money.

Aaron Rodgers might be worth $49 million as a 39-year-old QB, but Russell Wilson won't be. When he still had Fran Tarkington-type elusiveness, he could compensate for his inability to see over the offensive line. But being 6" shorter than Rodgers and BRady will become a huge liability as he gets into his late 30s.

But by then, Joe Burrow and Justin Herbert will be making $70 million a year, so maybe Russell's contract will still seem like a bargain.

By that time they will have new technology to stretch him out.
