Raiders signed CB David Amerson to a four-year, $38 million extension through 2020.

The deal includes $18 million guaranteed. It's a huge raise for a player who was owed just $880,000 in the final year of his contract. A big, physical press corner, Amerson was an immediate starter for Oakland after getting waived from Washington last year, grading as PFF's No. 9 overall cover corner. Sean Smith will open the season opposite Amerson in a vastly improved Raiders secondary. First-round pick Karl Joseph and 2015 NFL interceptions leader Reggie Nelson will man the safety positions.

Talk about overpay. There was no reason to give him this contract.

Lets see, Amerson actually played for the Raiders last year. And he did a pretty good job at that.

Norman played for anther team last year. And while he did a great job for them, we have no idea if he will actually live up to those skills in our defense... and yet we gave him $15 million a year.

You just hate on Amerson because we picked him over the guy you wanted.

There was no need for the Raiders to give Amerson that kind of money. Let Amerson prove he is worth that money this year. Why would it be different for Norman in our defense? Its just going to be one on one coverage on the best WR. He did that with Carolina and he will do that here.

Yes besides Jarvis Jenkins, Amerson was one of our worst 2nd round picks we have had.

Amerson was one of the only bright spots in our secondary last season.

Well he was shit over here. Are you surprise with this deal? They could of waited and see if he had a good year in 2016.

Actually Norman played one side of the field with Carolina and they play a zone blitz scheme more often than not. They also have one of the better pass rushes in the league even without the crackhead. But aside from those little details.. you are right it should be no different for Norman in DC.

Norman never had safety help. They did not pay that money to be a zone CB. I think with Galette out there our pass rush will improve. Are you saying you would rather have Amerson Shark? lol.

I'm okay with it. He didn't have a ton of INT's but that's not the only way to determine a CB's worth. He had 50 plus tackles and 25 passes defended in 14 games. He was the #1 CB last season but will be the #2 with the signing of Sean Smith.

Will Amerson end up being another Ryan Clark defensive back that got away from the Redskins before he got it?

Why would the Raiders factor in his play here when making this decision? All they care about is how he played in their defense and he played very well. So you lock up a guy like that and because they are so important good corners get big money.

Good for Amerson. I have no issue w/ this & honestly don't see why Redskins fans should really care about this. He was brought in by a different regime & had many issues during his time in DC. Sometimes players need a wake up call & a change of scenery to do well.

Not sure why some folks feel the need to pick apart every move made by this team. IMO - overall they are doing a very good job in molding the team using the new philosophy (primarily using the draft but supplementing w/ key FAs). The results were very good last season & show promise moving forward. They will make some mistakes along the way but if a decent amt of new players stick every season this team will be scary in a few years.

To be fair like with Carlos Rodgers it sucks to see a high draft pick stink here, then go somewhere else and be very good. I think that's perfectly understandable.

True. However - you have to understand that he was not drafted by the current regime. If they keep drafting well in the next few years this will be completely forgotten. Again - the Redskins main problem is not in retaining talent - it is in obtaining it in the first place primarily via the draft. Up until the last year or so their draft record has been atrocious.

Thing is, when we draft guys, cut them and then they go on to do well on other teams. You cant really say the problem was we didnt draft the right guys. I can see where you could say a guy not drafted by SMGM, might not be high on his list. But how many guys that this team gave up on, end up doing very well in other places?? At some point you have got to ask yourself.... is it the players or the organization?? Amerson was doing well, right up until we brought in Joe Barry. Now he gets a pretty good extension, mean while we just paid almost twice as much for Norman AND threw a 3rd round pick at the position to boot.

Struggling to understand why it matters which regime drafted him. How is that relevant? Kerrigan was also drafted by another group, so what? Doesn't change the fact that Amerson was a Redskin and now he is a good player for another team.

Just trying to clarify that this team is now building primarily via the draft & should not have many of these type situations moving forward. Amerson is just a situation where likely he needed a change of scenery. He was not doing well with this team - probably best for the Redskins and Amerson that the situation work out like this.

Anyhow - why keep worrying about this? The Redskins have a pretty solid secondary now - move on. I would also dispute this claim that tons of players leave the Redskins & become stars elsewhere. Sure there are some but not as many as some think & again the same situation is true for most NFL teams.
