Maggs isn't a better than Strawberry. Or Larry Walker. (Who is an option for this, is he?)

Id go with Rocky Colivito in the OF before Maggs. But hair and roids really brought him back and then some. One of my favorite Tigers for sure.

If we did this with guys who never were AllStars, Gibby would definitely be on my team.
I'll be honest, I've only maybe heard of Colavito. Not sure, which is weird, because I love the 1950's-60's

Well, good talking to you Bronco. I really enjoy our talks about old baseball players. You probably have the most knowledge about older players of anyone on this board (if only you understood what makes them so good:D). Alas, I have, and I quote, 4 research papers, 3 presentations, a mock interview, and 3 exams next week and a half (I hate whoever invented finals' week), so I must go, unless I want to be destined to type about old baseball players on my iPhone on 25th and Tatnall with my panhandle sign (I could have been successful! $5 for effort please) in Wilmington for the rest of my left. :suds:

That's right. But I believe the year he DID win the MVP ('91?) he wasn't an All-Star
Jimmy Rollins was t the year he won either, I think. (2007?)

But was an All Star already.

Still weird that a guy can't make the AS when three months later erybody thinks he's had the best season.

A guy has to be off the ballot.

I had to drop Rock Raines for Vince Coleman to keep the Columbians off my ass.

Oops it seems I didn't read the rules about being off the ballot.

If you hate adjusted stats, i.e. OPS+ and wRC+, could you at least include that stats they're based on, OPS, and preferably wOBA, in your analysis of players?

I am beginning to do something similar to the Gray ink test... I take the HR,BA, OPS, and BB, and see how often the player were top 10 and top 5 in the league... it is not perfect, of course... but i think this is a good generation test...

Imagine if Teddy Ballgame was right-handed and didn't miss 5 fucking years because of stupid Adolf Hitler:wank:

You're focusing on the Green Monster with this observation but you've missed another detail that would probably ding his numbers if he were right-handed. See if you can figure out what I'm talking about, I'll come back and share.

I may be being Captain Obvious, but are you talking about all the righty/righty match-ups he'd face, considering he (only) hit .297/.422/.473 against lefties?

You got it.

The split obviously wouldn't be exactly the same (and not just because of the park effects) but I've gotta think that facing pitchers from the "bad" side 3/4s of the time instead of 1/4 of the time wouldnt have had an insignificant effect on his overall numbers.

Exactly. If you're putting together a team you want to win, it starts with this guy

Yeah, that's the look I was going for. On a side note, after the picture was taken Pete offered me his watch/bracelet combo for 800 bucks. (Apparently he had a 3-team parlay that fell a little short of cashing)
