The islanders would be wise to handle this situation well, they have a hard enough time attracting u fa's as it is. This could only make our worse

If the Islanders would have put him back on waivers they wouldn't have gotten anything out of it. By not reporting Nabokov is actually doing Snow a huge favor. If Nabby fails to report for the remainder of this season the Islanders can trade him next season without having to subject him to waivers first. At a cap hit of $570k they will be able to get a lot more than a late round pick for him.

Not true. The Islanders could have made Nabokov available to the other teams who put in a claim on him. If one or more of those teams wanted him the team with the worst record would be given an opportunity to acquire him from the Islanders.

Actually they're handling it very well. Just about every reporter who's talked about this situation has said the Islanders are doing the right thing.

Nabokov looks worse & worse by the day for not reporting. He only wants to play for a team that can win the cup. He won't play anywhere else. That doesn't sit well with the rest of the league.

It's also been said teams throughout the league are very happy the Islanders took Nabokov off waivers. Their thoughts are very simple. Why help the Red Wings??:D

Easy there Likewall. Nabokov was sure to have several offers on the table this last offseason and went with what was the biggest offer. That in itself could be viewed as being greedy. It's also very understandable how not reporting to the Islanders can be viewed in the same light.

You'll have a better chance of making your point if you post a thought out respectful reply instead of a rant that goes in 90 different directions with a bunch of name calling.

Lets try to keep the discussion civil people.

The only name calling in there was towards Garth Snow, the post itself was exactly what is was suppose to be, a rant with humor (the doug wil/stan bowman thing, the isles being equal to shit on tp etc) There wasnt any point I was trying to make as everyone knows every fact of this situation already. I really didnt think a profanity laced message would get a bunch of grown mens panties in a bundle...

Common man, Snow basically is holding whats left of Nabbys career by the neck just to be a dickhead... Thats deserving enough for my rant...

Next time I post one of these please read it with humor in mind...
And SVP?? (forget your screen name) Im holding you to your word, if you ever come across a guy handing out millions for BJs, you better post the info!

Nabby should report during the last week of the season to fulfill his "contractual obligation" and as a big "fuck you" to the clueless team management (owner/GM) that team has...

Stop wasting Nabby's time with these bullshit games, IMO... he doesn't want to play for your shitty team, Mr. NYI GM.

Maybe Nabby looks bad in NYI fans and/or people in NY but Snow looks like the bigger idiot to the remaining 99% of NHL fans (of other teams).

Everywhere I read comments about this whole ordeal, 9/10 posts are saying the same thing -- NYI fucked up.

You got it. I don't mind humorous name calling, but when you told me to fuck off, well, it just annoys me when people act like an internet tough guy. You wouldn't say that to my face, but on the internet, your balls are as big as grapefruits.

Although I'm sure it wouldn't work... because NYI will want to keep him suspended so that they don't pay 1 cent of his contract this year... and so that they own his rights for next year -- which must have been the plan all along.

Shitty thing to do, regardless. I don't understand how a FA will want to go play for a GM who pulls this type of shit but oh well. Not like anyone in the NHL respected Garth Snow or thought anything of his GM skills (other than they are 100% fail, all the time) anyway... so no big loss.

Nabokov & his agent knew the rules going in. The Red Wings tried to put all kinds of clauses in the deal hoping nobody would claim him. If not the Islanders somebody else would have claimed him.

Nabokov is an asset now. He can be traded come July 1st without having to go through waivers. With that cheap contract a number of teams will be interested. Including his BELOVED Red Wings.

That's incorrect. The Islanders have to subject him to full waivers first because his status changed. He would no longer be a FA coming from a Euro league. Any player aquired off waivers must be made available on waivers to all teams before they can be traded. He would be subject to the standard waiver rules and he must pass through those waivers unclaimed before the Islanders could trade him. No team is going to trade for a player that they can pick up off waivers.

Rereading the CBA I think this is also incorrect. The Isles have to keep Nabokov for a full calendar year before they can trade him without subjecting him to waivers first.

Does it really matter at this point which one of us is right? Nabokov can be traded come July 1st.

I edited my previous post but I'll repost. I don't think he can be traded come July 1st. The CBA states that any player claimed off waivers must remain with the team a full calendar year before they can be traded without having to pass through waivers first. Though, that's for the standard waiver process. It doesn't specify anything for players in Nabokov's situation.

Their handling incredibly poorly actually, out of respect to a veteran player who clearly doesnt want to play with a team with no direction or structure. They are holding hostage.

They did something because they could not because it was right or would help them in any way.

There is a reason no one wants to play on long island, and this is a prime example. What does this say to lawson and Poulin, whom played a great game last night? Sorry we want a youth movement but you arent it.

The only part where Nabokov is screwing up is by not reporting, he shouldve atleasts done that first then requested to be waived, then if that failed then just not play for the sorry franchise.

Why would snow want to ruin his chance of getting the #1 overall again? Just screams stupid

Lol, every time you post it sounds like your panties are in a bunch. You take things personally that have zero effect on your life.....unless you're a relative or friend of Nabby or Niity. Are you the agent? Oh well, I guess I'm just not a "grown man" without a sense of humor.

hahah nah the whole SJ goalie situation is just a subject that I like to get fired up about... You know, kinda like how everyone else on here gets fired up about Marleau & Thornton. Guys have been posting panty bunched rants bout them for years... Most perfer to bag on them, I perfer to bag on Niemi thats all

So apparently when the people get mad and post about Marleau & Thornton it does have some kind of effect on there life vs my posts about Niemi that have zero effect... Ohhhhhhh I get it now haha :D:D:confused:

Fair enough. I actually agree with you in that I'm not a huge fan of Niemi. Even though in fairness, Niemi has been playing very well recently. I think that Niittymaki (whenever he's all healed up) will be the goalie the Sharks will need to ride.....even if McLellan and Wilson don't think so. That said, I could be wrong (I've been wrong before many times) and Niemi might keep playing very well. It's just funny how when you do it, it's just being "fired up" but when others do it they "get their panties in a bunch".

So apparently when the people get mad and post about Marleau & Thornton it does have some kind of effect on there life vs my posts about Niemi that have zero effect... Ohhhhhhh I get it now haha :D:D:confused:

Again, fair enough.....difference being you ask? When someone doesn't agree with me, I don't tell them to "fuck off" and I don't ask them if they'd rather "blow a back-alley bum or a millionaire". I also don't get all pissy and then claim I was kidding afterward.

I admit, when the Sharks don't give 100% (ala Marleau, Thornton and Heatley) I do get frustrated.....hell sometimes downright pissed off. I "get my panties in a bunch" over it. AND I bitch and moan about Heatley a ton. It does have an effect on me. What I don't understand about you is that SJVP stated his case about Nabokov in a non-abrasive manner that completely set you off.....I guess I just don't see how SJVP's comment could inspire such venom out of you when he was just stating an opinion (and not a very far-fetched one at that). It's not like he said "anybody who takes Nabby's side is an idiot".
