Literally from an article about proper form tackling: head before shoulders, eyes down.

but if the runner tried to juke to the side at the moment of tackle, does that make it 15 yards, free first down, and possible ejection for two halves?

you ppl are silly.

]You can go at crotch/level, literally BELOW the waist, on a tackle... and if the offensive player decides to crouch or throw himself to the ground at that moment, you’ll get ejected from the game:

...but if the offensive player does NOT shift his position, it’s just a good tackle?:

It’s a terrible rule and application, and y’all keep arguing for it in general and IN THOSE cases. You’re truly stupid.

The hilt of a sword is wider thus sticks further out than the blade, but yet you dont lead with the hilt of the sword..........

Just because the head sticks above the shoulders doesnt mean that when making contact with the shoulder you are leading with the head. that is just retarded logic this moron is trying to use to justify stupidity

Head in front of shoulders. Eyes not up. Like every form tackle ever.

but if this runner shifts to his left to avoid the tackle? Or crouches in anticipation of the tackle? 15 yards and tackler ejected for two halves?

can you dunces understand yet? Pls tell me you’re not so dumb you can’t understand?

LOL, you flaming idiot.

Hey Mr. "All Tackles Lead With The Head"....What does your very pic say in the boxed in red?

To add to that, nowhere does it say "Eyes not up". That moronic advise exists nowhere other than right here with your dumbass. .

God you’re dumb. If the runner shifts to one side like runners do, then the head is not out of the equation.
Plus, the pic shows the eyes not up.

you dumb dunce. Your own post proves my point.

I think if the OP were to play football, he would be the only person in football history not to “lead with the head” while tackling under his definition, since his head is clearly up his own ass...

“Eyes through the thighs” is NOT eyes down looking at grass. The neck bends. The face mask may hit ball carrier if shoulder misses, not the crown of helmet which leads to neck injury.

On Alabama ejection for targeting; QB ducked but it was spearing anyway... a head down illegal play.

Yes. And if the runner moves a couple of inches to one side? You know how runners tend to move? God, you can’t be this stupid

A defensive back gets called for PI on contact... unless he is looking back to the ball where he can make a play for it.

Similarly, a tackler doesn’t get ejected if his face mask collides with head of ball carrier. Ever seen targeting called when face mask hits the head? No, it’s always crown of helmet, which happens with eyes down position on tackle.

Not looking and blind play is dangerous and discouraged. Random luck isn’t encouraged or rewarded.

Consider in hockey that a puck carrier is supposed to keep his head up and not staring down at the puck. If puck carrier doesn’t “keep his head on a swivel” looking around to defend himself; refs won’t even call penalties. They will say that you should have kept your head up.

Btw, a tackler has 2 shoulders. Yes, ball carrier can dip suddenly which the blind tackler cannot see. If tackler is looking properly, he can pick a shoulder to hit with, left or right. It cannot be both shoulders as head is in the middle. It’s not a blind launch.

Oh right, you're new here. Let me introduce you to one of the major idiots of the board: ElTexan is not very smart and not interested in any way of having a discussion back and forth. He's here to name call and bloviate his view even when his own evidence proves his own points wrong (as in that picture above). You are wasting your time with this one. You truly can't fix stupid.

First of all, if the ball carrier is going to try to avoid a tackle here, he's going to go to his right, not left. The tackler is going in WITH HIS LEFT SHOULDER toward the left side abdomen area of that ball carrier.

His eyes are up and looking through his thighs. You know, the first picture on the left shows the tackler will keep eye contact through the entire motion into the tackle.

I've been at those practices watching this technique being taught. It works. It's not head first. No shit his head is on top of the body, but it is not what makes contact. Also notice how low they are expected to go. Players shifting are much less likely to still create a head to head contact. Their eyes are on them the whole way in. If they suddenly duck down they can be seen.

Both the Seahawks and Huskies have lead their respective league at least one full season (both actually more than one) in tackling and all use this. Players escaping the tackle because they shift to the shoulder is not a thing. They both get way less ejections/penalties and it has improved player safety.

The push for this went back to a player named Curtis Williams. In 2000 CW broke his neck on a tackle against Stanford that left him paralyzed. He never walked again and eventually died from his injuries a few years later. There was a push after that injury to reduce the chances of neck injury for tacklers. It lead to these techniques, or at least they found them and added them. I have no idea who or where they came from, only that it has been something very important to the UW culture since CW's death.

I don't share this with you because I expect you to understand any of it. I do so to share it with anyone else bothering to read your drivel. There is a proper technique for tackling that drastically reduces the chances for head to head contact and neck injuries for both players involved in a tackle and I've seen it in use for many years. It works, it doesn't reduce the chances for completing the tackle, and still can result in explosive tackles that plant people into the turf (without the possibility of a flag).
