Great fucking band. One of my favorites of all time.

I went through my teenage and young adult years during the grunge era (early 90's) and FINALLY got to see them play tonite for the first time. The played almost all of the good shit (none of the smack songs and none of the personal shit) they also played some new stuff. Did a two and a half hour set. It was great. They sounded great. Jerry Cantrell is a guitar god and Duvall totally does Lane justice.

Damn it's hard...

My favorite has to be "Down in a Hole" .... The one song they didn't play that I was hoping they would :( . I doubt anyone gets that one much nowadays...

Honestly, I love pretty much everything they ever recorded. Dirt and Jar of Flies are my favorite albums.

If I had to rank my top songs, it would be like this:

1. I Stay Away
2. Man in the Box
3. Down in a Hole
4. Dam That River
5. Dem Bones

Had a compound fracture in my thumb during football my sophomore year. ('96). The anesthesiologist asked if I had any CDs I wanted on during sergury. Dirt was in my backpack. He laughed and said he'd play it, but I wasn't getting any heroin. One of my favorite bands ever for sure. Glad you got to see 'em in concert. I have to get over Staley being gone... and replaced.

Alice in Chains is mainstream, including your favorite songs.

I doubt you'll find any fan who doesn't love all of Dirt.

Grind is great, too, and actually charted higher than most of the picks on here.

This.

I would say the only song that 'uber' mainstream is Man in a Box but everything is mainstream with them. A top 5 list isnt really accurate with bands like this...a top 20 is probably more appropriate.

I lived in Port Angeles when grunge was big, and got to see Temple of the Dog open for AIC once. It was a great time for music.

The loss of Lane still hurts. I'd definitely go see them live now if I had the chance.

Nobody has brought up Rooster yet. Its probably better than any rock song made in the past 5 years. Probably would struggle to make my top 10 aic songs

I love it, but figured everyone would have that one on their list. It's definitely in my top 5.

Very true.

Honestly, there's nothing but great songs on Dirt. It's one of the few album listening experiences that are great anytime. Only a few others that get me for a whole hour...Astral Weeks, Pet Sounds, Blonde on Blonde and a few others maybe.

Where to start????

AIC songs I learned to play on guitar (and not easy because Jerry uses a ton of different tunings) starting with early to recent:

We Die Young
Bleed the Freak
Sunshine
Real Thing

Dam That River
Rain When I Die
Angry Chair
Would

Get Born Again

Last of My Kind
Take Her Out
Private Hell

Hollow
Pretty Done
Stone
Phantom Limb

Those are just the ones I that really spoke to me so I learned them.

There are many others I love. AIC will always be one of my fav bands. I can always listen to them, whatever album, and enjoy it.

I moved to Seattle in 1991 so it was when the Seattle music scene was primed to explode and there was an incredible amount of live music played in tons of clubs around the city. Soo many good memories. Would listen to those early albums driving up and down snowboard areas like Stevens Pass, Snoqualmie, and Mt. Baker.
