You remember what year Portis was in when Mike traded him ?
Portis played 2 years in Denver, 7 in Washington.

Listen, this has been way misconstrued. I don't think anybody is advocating trading, or even shopping, Morris. The question was would you consider trading him for a first round pick. First, no one is giving us a 1st for Alfred, so he is staying right here. This is all hypothetical.
So you need to think outside the box a bit. What the question really implies is could the team benefit more by having a 1st next year and having to get another work horse RB. So lets say alfred is a 1500 yd/year back, so he is very good. Having said that, it is reasonable that in Shanny's scheme, we could find another good RB that averages, lets say, 1200 yds/year. That level of RB is not that hard to find, especially in this scheme. They are out there. On top of that, you also add in a 1st round pick to solve a hole at Safety, ILB, WR, where ever the talent is available. SO the real question is would the redskins be a better team with a 1200 yd/year back and a young, PB potential safety (or ILB, or WR, or we trade the 1st for 2 seconds and a third and pick up a couple stud OL) as opposed to just Alfred and no first round pick? As much as I love Albert, I would have to take that trade because I believe it makes the team better as a whole.
Again, this is all hypothetical. I am not advocating getting rid of Morris!

We probably won't resign Morgan for $6m, but we could very well replace him on the FA market and easily spend that amount.
I'm a fan of Morgan as a person, but he has not earned his salary and either has one hell of a second half of the season, or as you said, is replaced with someone with a similar contract.
Rak's contract is the biggest question mark going forward.
I would also assume Moss & Fletcher are retiring after this season.
Only other contract of significance is Hall & Wilson. Expect Hall signs a short-term deal in the 4-5mil range, similar to the Morgan / #2 WR contract. Think Wilson should be kept with contract similar to what Hall/Biggers is playing for this year.
The other players you've listed are league minimum & I dont think their contracts will change much beyond league minimum.
Washington Redskins Player Contracts, Salaries, & Transactions
Maybe. Maybe not. Below is a partial list of our own free agents that we will probably try and resign, or at least talk to. If we don't resign them they will have to be replaced at similar cost. A couple of them will cost us significantly more. Rak, as we have discusses, will be in the $10m range. Dhall could very well get $5m. Riley will be in the $4m range. We probably won't resign Morgan for $6m, but we could very well replace him on the FA market and easily spend that amount. For simplicity sake, I'll assume that the rest are resigned, or replaced, at their current cost + 10%. So based on these assumptions, we will need over $40m in cap space just to resign these players. Currently we spend about $29m on these players. So the delta growth is approximately 12-15m that will eat into our free cap space for next year. So that will give us around $14-17m to spend on additional FAs and draft picks for next year. We need a safety or 2, an ILB, and a couple of OL. To understand what these players will cost, a good safety will be in the 6m range. A god ILB is gonna run $8-10m. A RT will be in the 4-5M range. So if we just satisfy these holes via good level (not elite) free agents, we will spend all of our free cap space. This is by no means scientific, but just a stab at showing we can't satisfy all of our issues next year with the 30+M in free cap space.

come on !?! we still have guys we can redo guys if needs be but if you are saying we cant make 31 mil work for us then we have serious issues with management .
You really have a way of putting words in my mouth. I, again, never said that. What I'm attempting to show is that while 31 m is great, we can't solve all of out issues next year with just $31M. We have so many of our own FAs that eat up so much of it. I guess I'm just trying to temper expectations.
We do not want to get into redoing contacts. Look at the cowboys. Been there, done that.
why do you guys "bring up " things then back away when i answer back ?
i mean really when you bring up a list of guys we need to resign and point out that it will eat up our 31 mil in cap space just how am i to respond ? you type it out and i am not supposed to respond to the type ?
and how can i "not put words in your mouth " when a i say dont trade the guy and you say , not me, but you say, you would take the 1st round pick for him ?
the 2 statements tell me thru text that you advocate trading morris for a 1st round pick and that 31 mil in cap space along with our draft picks isnt enough to fix our needs . how else do i take it thru text ?
now perhaps in a conversation face to face i could figure out the things you think i should thru text but my limited ability doesnt allow me to guess when you are playing devils advocate or not
my feeling is we wont fix every issue on this team next off season . it could take 2-3 to get that mythical perfect team .
perhaps we , as fans , are overreacting to our alleged troubled areas
Dad, i'm not backing away from anything I've posted. But there is a difference between a theoretical discussion and reality. So let me ask you this, would you trade Morris for 3 first round picks? Of course you would. And your response to this answer would be that we are giving up on our players, that we have no patience, blah, blah blah. Which is just not true and an overreaction.
Everything and everyone has a value on this team. I, and others, just happen to put Morris' value at a 1st round pick and I explained why I think so. Your value of him is higher, i assume. But its all a moot point because there isn't a team in the League that would give a 1st round pick for Morris as I said early on.
As far as my style, do throw things out there to foster discussion. I enjoy intelligent debate. What I don't take kindly to is to be accused of giving up on the team or having no patience, etc, when involved in the discussion. You can disagree, I have no problem, just don't make it personal.
You absolutely take a 1st rounder for Morris. As good as he is, good RBs are a dime a dozen. Peterson is the only RB in the league right now worth a 1st round pick.
Portis had to be mid 20s when he came here. He had been in the league for maybe 4 years, I'd guess.
good read
