Which is all I was saying. Smith could be a pretty good QB if put in the right offense and situation. Is he a guy that can put the team on his back and carry them to the playoffs? I don't think so. But he would be a good QB in a roll where he is expected not to turn the ball over, complete passes, and move the chains when mixed with a steady dose of run support.

So he could be a good QB on a team with a good running game and a really good D? Hell who couldn't? Even Tebow and Sanchez were. That isn't saying very much.

Agreed. Same reason Andy Dalton has a winning record. If you have a very good D and a conservative approach, you can easily clean up on some of the bottom-feeders of the NFL. The problem is that that strategy is not one that will win a Super Bowl.

To Tubbs,

Not what I was saying at all.

Right situation meaning he doesn't have to do it all himself, and in an offense tailored towards his abilities.

To Cincygrad,

I am not talking about Andy Dalton's record either, I was displaying his passing statistics in comparison to Brees and Smith. They are not far off of Brees's last two in SD which was year 4-5 for him, and only years 1-2 for Dalton.

I see Alex's low on the Jets higher than Sanchez on the Jets last year. I know you were talking about Sanchez years ago, but I think he's better than Sanchez.

It could win it. If Kyle Williams hadn't fumbled the punt twice in the Giants' redzone, the Niners would have made the Super Bowl. The way the Pats played, the Niners would likely have won.

It would be the defense and running team that won it, not Smith, but it could be done. You're right in that one can not depend on that as a reliable strategy if you have a better QB available, like Kaep. If you have a current Sanchez and Cassel, then it looks more attractive - but you have an emphasis to draft for running and defense. O-line is big, too. Receivers, TEs, etc. are lesser priorities, as Smith would likely play the same regardless, give or take a bit.

The last average/bad quarterback to win the Super Bowl was Brad Johnson. And he actually led the NFC in passing rating that season -- He also was helped immensely by a dominant defense that scored three touchdowns in the super bowl.

Brees from a talent standpoint blows Dalton away. Similar stats or not, Brees' potential is/was much higher than Dalton's. Therefore, I wouldn't use anything Brees did as an indication of what Dalton might be able to do. Additionally, believe it or not, back in years 4 and 5 of Brees time, it was a different NFL. Those stats meant much more back then.

It's just opinion. I think Alex is better than Brad Johnson, Trent Dilfer, etc. It's too bad that Kyle Williams fumbled punts in the opponent's Redzone twice. Alex didn't get much to the WRs, but he did get 196 yards to TEs and RBs at 11. YPA and 2 TDs. He got 15 first downs to NY's 20, but I wish more of them were on third down. Again, it's opinion, but I think Smith is slightly better than average but not good/great/elite.

If you want to play that game, didn't both ST and the defense have stellar games the previous 2 games, getting something like 5 TO's in each game? Assuming that's the case, then without that stellar play, Smith never makes it out of Game 1.

Dalton clearly finished his season in somewhat of a slump. regardless of the stats, we can probably expect a similar pattern next season. We'll do ok against most of the crappy teams and lose against playoff teams.

Crappy teams we play in 2013: Browns (x2), Chargers, Jets, Bills

Average teams we play in 2013: Bears, Dolphins, Lions, Vikings, Colts and Steelers (x2)

Good teams we play in 2013: Ravens (x2), Patriots, Packers

We'll go 4-1 against bad teams, 4-3 against average teams, and 1-3 against good teams.

Book it!

I think we end up winning 10. So I either see 4-1, 5-2, 1-3 or 4-1, 4-3, 2-2.

I expect the steelers to be pissed off next year, they came in 3rd place and their rival won the superbowl.

I wonder how it is they can fix shit and we can't.

oh, that's right MB

I give them credit because they always seem to find a way, but it seems like they have a lot of areas to address and not a lot of money. They still have Ben, but will likely lose Wallace and might not have a fully healthy Miller. Troy P is on the back end of his career.... James Harrison might be done there.... Still need more help in the defensive backfield.

Make no mistake, the Steelers will always be one of the best franchises in the NFL. But I think they are still a year or two away before they are completely re-tooled and ready for another run.

Plus their O-line isn't any good and they have no good running backs.

Though they did hire Todd Haley..... He had family ties with the Rooneys....

Ask Big Ben how much he likes that hire.
