It's crazy good for KC, especially when you look at the cap aspect. They just took $17 million off their cap, AND added a young corner under rookie contract who can play pretty well, at least as a slot corner if not a #2. HUGE.

Smith has a multi year, multi million dollar contract while Cousins doesn’t have a job now. Don’t think he’s feeling that happy about things right now.

Cousins is about to hit free agency as an unprotected competent QB in his 20s.

I would say that it is even money that he will set a new record high contract in the NFL. He will have 5 or 6 teams trying to sign him and willing to do just about anything to do it. Broncos, Jets, Browns, Bills, and Cardinals could all make a run for him. Heck I wouldn't rule out the Giants or Dolphins.

Cousins is probably the happiest guy in DC.

which makes it good for the rest of the NFC East.
Skins lost a corner, a chuck of their cap & a (I assume) early round draft pick

Nelson is up and down but a pretty decent slot corner when healthy so I am not sure what they do. But Fuller is a big, big deal for the Chiefs with how bad their RCB has been; and Nelson is overextended as an outside CB.

I know one thing. After seeing some of the #'s for Smith's Extension. Pretty sure Kirk Cousins hates the Skins now. Any time he plays them you know he will want to make them pay! (kinda like Moss grudge with the Cowboys)

holy phuck!

a couple years ago they could have signed Cousins to a lesser contract & still have half the contract to go LOL :laugh3:

71 mil guaranteed? for a stop gap QB waiting for the future QB? I would imagine no matter what now. He has stay at least 3 of those years before being able to cut him (maybe 4)
Love the fact the Redskins are in the NFC East!

Congrats to Alex Smith however. That is an awesome last contract to leave the NFL with!:thumb:

Lol, he’s better than slack Prescott

At the very minimum, he gets Matt Stafford money. At the minimum.

I agree he will break all the records.
He is the top young FA QB. Someone will pay him a ridiculous amount of money. Smiths contract will only help his cause.
You know Cousins agent is smiling ear to ear right now.

I kept saying it on the Redskin board and they got pissed at me and banned me so I’ll say it here. You can throw for 4500-5000 yards all you want but if you can’t win games or be seen as a leader on and off the field, you ain’t sticking around too long. Smith led the Chiefs to be contenders again. No surprise the Redskins have moved past Kirk Cousins. Cousins can’t even lead the Redskins to a winning record over three years. With that said, the Redskins didn’t help Cousins much either. No running game, bad o-line with no depth, WRs can’t catch the ball, defense sucks against the run. Just bad all around.
I think your putting to much win/loss weight on the shoulders of the QB.
Gotta remember hes only one of 22.

So to summarize:

* The Redskins traded for a 34-year-old quarterback because they didn't want to pay the younger one they already had, who is just as good.

* They then turned around and signed the old QB to a huge guaranteed contract, which means they won't develop or play any young QBs for years.

* And...they traded valuable picks and players they could be using to rebuild to do it.

I love this guy!
