Buster Olney feels like ARoid will try to play again for another team.

Wouldn't shock me. He really wants 700 imo. Kind of limited to 14 teams though as he can only play DH

Arod is done though. This is a year long slump he's been in. Since last August he has been done

No way in hell is he leaving the 21M on the table for next season, not to mention the balance of the $$ for this year. Either he was bought out, or the Yankees are actually cutting him, but ARod is just calling it a retirement.
I bet they paid him more than they owed him.

No reason for him to stop playing otherwise.

Watching his press conference live on MLB Network.

After the game on Friday, he will be released by The Yankees and become an ambassador for The Yankees organization.

Gotta say, I'm not exactly sad to see him go.

If the highlighted/red is true the Yankees deserve every bit of negative karma they have coming to them.

The way I understood it is that the Yankees will release him, and he will be paid for the remainder of his contract, but will take over a spot as an ambassador/instructor/adviser role immediately after Friday's game.

That is correct. Only thing is I heard he doesn't start his new role til Spring 2017. Basically he gets to go home for 2 months and sit on his ass

Kinda crazy... I figured there was no way his pride would let him retire without the HR record. Guess he realized the swing is just not there any more.

Yeah, getting popped going to the medicine cabinet one too many times will do that to a player. He got the loot. He never gave a shit about anything else, including his teammates.

I don't care what the stats say he was a bust, he took the money and ran.
What could've been a great career he was just about the business of cashing in.

A-Roid is nothing but a joke to most people. Almost every Yankee fan I know can't stand the guy and the money he wasted for like a decade. I think it's fair to say most people in the Yankee organization can't stand him (at this point).

So why the F would they continue to maintain ties with him as anything? Special advisor, instructor, whatever. He represents all that's bad about baseball and I guess the Yankees kind of do too...but they could have made a statement and just cut him and moved on.

3 MVPs, 117.9 WAR (12th all-time), 696 home runs, 14 ASG appearances, WS ring (where he hit 6 home runs in one postseason). Seems like a pretty great career to me.

How dare he sign a contract worth over $200M. Surely he's the only athlete who would ever do such a thing.

@mcnabb7542 is a Mariners fan that never got over choking in the playoffs after a 116 win season, and still cries over A-rod leaving the Mariners.

Pay him no mind.

He gets an awesome 1 week farewell tour too! Do you think Boston and Tampa will have some cool retirement gifts for Arod this week?
