I'd rather see him work this out while continuing to play or at most miss the next 2 weeks. We all have personal problems, but the majority of us keep pushing on through them because that's what maturity is.
I see this as a clever ploy by Jed York, Baalke, Harbaugh and Aldon Smith to also jump one step ahead of Roger Goodell.
If the player admits he has a problem, checks himself in for an "indefinite" amount of time (2 weeks I'm guessing) then the player comes out of rehab, you are one step of Goodell. Whereas if you do nothing Goodell will drop his own hammer and you might not like that as much.
The problem with this theory is that one has nothing to do with the other. The Niners can't suspend him without pay; Goodell can.
All the Niners can do it give him a paid vacation while Goodell decides his punishment. I hope it's at least 6 games to wake his ass up because a vacation isn't going to do it IMO.
Probably misses just that 1 game on Thursday.
Aldon Smith - LB - 49ers
ESPN's Adam Schefter stated on NFL Insiders Monday to expect Aldon Smith's leave of absence to cost him "at least a few weeks."
The 49ers are officially NOT calling Smith's a suspension; it's being billed as a voluntary leave of absence to get his alcohol and drug problems fixed. He'll likely get an NFL-imposed suspension later this season or next year. The 49ers face the Rams, Texans, and Cardinals over their next four games.

<---- I switched to tank in the off-season and Aldon is All Done. I take the blame fellas.
hmm, now that you mentioned it....
Atbthe risk of sounding superficial and totally self serving, can you guys keep him out until after the Panthers game? Pretty please?
