I can't imagine there being another player that you'd want to hatefuck harder than Pujols.

This must be a list of newer albatross (is plural of albatross just "albatross", like "deer" ?) because Ryan Howard is still under contract.

According to this MLB 2015 Valuation crawford and hamilton were worse than howard last year
Pujols is near the bottom but lots of company Arod/BJ/Hram/Ellsbury/Panda/Cano just to name a few:suds:

and thats just the batters

Yep, and the Angels are paying for Hamilton's salary too. :laugh3:

How is Cano in this list yet? He has posted back to back 137 and 116 wRC+ in his two years with the Mariners. Now in 2 year, the contract will surely look like an "albatross," but the point of paying lots of money on long-term deals with players is that you're paying a premium for the first couple of years, and then bite the bullet on the rest. If Cano produces a 130 wRC+ and a .360 wOBA in his first four years and the M's make the playoffs, I think most people would take it even if he only has a 90 wRC+ and a .330 wOBA in his last six.

Be great to have a decent batter hitting behind #5. I think Aybar or Freese hit behind him last year.

The guy sees maybe 1 good pitch per AB. My problem with AP is that his walk total should be way higher, like Bonds' was late in his career.

As far as bad contract, hell look at so many pitchers getting over $10 million a year for doing jack shit.

So you'd rather pay Pujols 10 years and 254 million dollars than pay a pitcher 10 million dollars per year on (let's say) a three year contract?

Go look at the pitchers who've done jack that are getting over $10 million/yr. If I had the Angels TV $$, I'd pay Albert and find someone that can suit up and hit behind him. The Angels have a shitload of money to spend. They can afford the contract obviously.. They paid Hamilton to go away.

Not to mention Albert got that money because he was "the machine". The guy was stout year end and year out.

Who's had a decade like he had? Ted Williams?

So, just to be clear, you'd rather have Pujols' contract than J.A. Happ's?

:L I would take Albert's over Ryan Howard, Cliff Lee, and Mark Teixiera all day.

Took you awhile to find a decent pitcher at $10 million..

Albert > JA Happ as well. WTH has JA Happ done besides eat innings?

Pitchers re-signed in 2016:
Brett Anderson 1 yr/$16.5 million
Wei-Yin Chen 5 yrs/$80 million
Hisashi Iwakuma 1 yr/$12 million
JA Happ 3 yrs/$36 million
Scott Kazmir 3 yrs/$48 million
Ian Kennedy 5 yrs/$70 million
Mike Leake 5 yrs/$80 million
Jeff Samardzija 5 yrs/$90 million

The market for SP has gotten ridiculous. What did these guys do last year?

All those guys (even Kennedy which is saying something) have better contracts than Pujols

Most of them were very solid last year.

Happ had a 3.61 ERA last year, so let's not act like he was a crappy pitcher who just ate innings. And if he sucks, he's gone in 3 years..better to overpay for a shorter term deal then get stuck with a guy for a really long term.

Happ has put up back to back xFIP seasons of 3.95 and 3.69 in 158 and 172 IP, respectively

Not crappy, but not good. I would say average at best. Happ may have been ok for 1/2 the year. Albert had 38/39 HRs and went cold for stretch? With no one hitting behind him.

Considering just about all of his numbers were better than the MLB average (including the 3 main stats in ERA/ERA+, WHIP, K/BB), calling his 2015 season average at best would be underrating it a bit.

I guess a pitcher just under 4.00 era is "better than average" these days. :tsk:
