They are taking advantage of pretty soft May schedule which is nice especially since the line up has gotten pretty banged up the last few days with Gordon, Cruz and now Haniger and Segura. If they can survive June I will be a believer. It looks rough
3 vs. TB
2 @ Houston
4 @TB
3 vs. Angels
4 vs. Boston
3 @ Yankees
3@ Boston
4 @ Baltimore

However that still leaves a bunch of games left against your Astros which they rarely beat

Welp managed 17-9 in this stretch. Not to shabby. Division is still a long shot at best but a wildcard spot seems in control

I don't know about the division. The Astros have been on fire the last 3+ weeks and only have a 3.5 game lead. Your Mariners are like a bad rash that just wont go away.

The teams still have 13 head to head games left. I kinda think the Mariners would need to go 9-4 in those to be in the conversation. We will see how it plays out. Although the Astros seem to have a somewhat historic rotation, it looks like the offense could be better. If this thing is still close in September, it will be fun

I would rather see the Astros kicking back with the division all ready locked up by September...

Just saw that John Jay is with the D'Backs now. How can a team as shitty as the Royals trade away a guy hitting .307 and playing a solid Center Field every day

Because he's 33 and soon to be a free agent and the Royals are probably going to be bad for a while. So why not get something for him? He's good at getting on base (but not exceptional) and his offensive numbers are still average/below average for an outfielder.

Not this year. had one of the top batting averages in the league.

what will the royals do without an outfielder who hasn't had an OPS+ above 100 since 2014?

There's more to hitting than batting average, cupcake.
Really, Cletus? Where'd you hear that? You must be a baseball afficianado.

And just like that, the Mariners have run off 8 wins in a row and the Astros lost 3 of for to Tampa:gaah:

A little more breathing room for you after yesterday.

Unfortunately building a winning streak against the Orioles and Royals isn't too much of an accomplishment but you take wins when you can.

They all count. A win against the Royals & Orioles counts just as much as a win vs. the Red Sox or Yankees.

Right now Tampa is the reason it's close. The Rays kept losing to the Mariners and have now taken 2 series against the Astros.:gaah:

Yea the Rays are tough to put a finger on. The M's ended up 6-1 against them but all those games were close. I guess that's kinda the story of the M's so far tho

The Rays have a strong pitching staff and a below average lineup (they can get on base, but there's little power). They're kinda like the 2017 Red Sox (even though the Sox were 6th in the AL in runs scored, they were last in the AL in home runs and only had a 91 OPS+ despite being 5th in the AL in OBP).

Matt Chapman's pretty good. Hitting .256/.350/.450 (124 wRC+) and leads all 3B in DRS and UZR. He's 23rd among all players in WAR.

Interesting series between the A's and Astros this week. Kind of tough for a Mariner fan to figure out who to pull for. I think if the A's add a starter they could be a factor down the stretch
