"Pending a physical "?

Isn’t he already on the team?
Half a billion for one player. And not close to being the highest paid. I can remember in '79, when Nolan Ryan signed the first $1,000,000 per contract and experts said it was the end of the game. Teams could not afford to pay that silly amount and stay in business. LOOGY's make that now.

The last half of that contract is going to look just like the Pujols deal with the Angels and the Miguel Cabrera contract with the Tigers. 14 years is ridiculous. No deferred money is ridiculous, as well. Vlad is punishing the Jays for manipulating his service time when he first came up.

I'm fine with this. Yophery is an interesting prospect, albeit in the lower minors. I love the draft pick aspect of it though, makes up for the pick they lost for signing Bregman.

I mean…I guess Vlad held all the cards here and essentially got to write his own contract, but after age 32-33ish, I’d want no part of Vlad. An 8 year deal felt right. Maybe even 10. 14 is a disaster in the making.

Huh. I wouldn’t expect a trade like this in April. On the one hand, I thought Priester had a chance to be pretty good with some more time in AAA. He’s an intriguing arm.

On the other hand, I like what they’ve essentially turned Nick Yorke into. Nice to add the 33rd overall pick to the mix. I don’t know anything about Rodriguez coming back, but he looks like a pretty good lottery ticket. I guess Priester wasn’t considered much of an option this season…especially with Dobbins leapfrogging him for the start yesterday. They have a lot of arms in the mix, regardless.

Possibly the new Prince Fielder contract…..
