A healthy Stanton fixes a lot of these issues, but who knows when he’s coming back. But the Yankees have the same issues as they have in previous years: Good pitching shuts them down in the postseason unless they are hitting homers.

Rizzo is hitting .221. Stanton is hitting .228. Donaldson is hitting .222. These are middle of the order bats, too.
A lot of folks say batting average is over rated but I disagree somewhat. Teams with high batting averages rarely go into prolonged slumps.

I’m old, so I still like the old timey stats of BA, HR & RBI’s. I get it that OBP is more important than BA, but good pitching isn’t going to be walking many guys and then you are right back to BA.

Batting average is important in that it's a pretty key component to OBP. It's hard to have a good OBP if you're hitting in the low 200's, and usually the guys with the higher OBPs are going to be hitting at least .270+.

The problems with BA:

1. It treats singles/doubles/triples/home runs as being equal
2. It doesn't account for walks or HBPs

that's why wOBA is great. There's a pretty strong correlation between wOBA and runs scored.

After the All-star break he was “just tired” and “needed a couple days”. No DL stint was considered necessary.

Then he needed to go on the DL, but it would be a minimal stay.

Then he was going to rejoin the team in Boston(which obviously didn’t happen).

Meanwhile he will have missed a month of action soon. I never trust the Yankees’ doctors to get this stuff right.

When Stanton returns teams will still pitch around Judge to get to Stanton, because he is not a terribly hard out.

If he's on one of his hot streaks where he's hitting everything 115 MPH and up, they'll prefer to pitch to Judge.

If he's not, then yeah, he looks like it's his first day playing baseball.

When was his last hot streak? More importanly I guess, is tge question, “has Stabton ever had a hot enough streak while on the yankees for opposing teams to prefer to pitch to Judge than him?”

I cant remeber a time like that.

June 23-29? He had 5 homers in 6 games, though those were his only 5 hits in that span (.238/.304/.952).

Otherwise I'd say May 10-21 (.486/.561/.971, 5 homers, 16 RBIs in 9 games)

Not really an extended period of dominance. One might argue that even during these two time periods, teams probably preferred to pitch to him than Judge even though Stanton was hot.

He hasnt (to my limited knowledge at least) ever really established himself as a force on the yankees like he used to be in Miami.

He reminds me of Pujols on the Angels, circa 2016: a nice player, a good player, a valuable player - just not feared.
