You've got to be really inept to go 13 innings without scoring with the new rules.

Yankees find a way!

Sox have a payroll of over 200 million and not much to show for it- AND Bogaertes and Devers are due huge raises.

I bet Bogaerts leaves and they move Story to SS.

Eovaldi has not always been great- but he has been pretty good this year and prob. the best SP for the staff this year. I bet they let him walk too.

Boston's SP next year looks like its going to be a mess unless Sale actually gets healthy and they make a big trade or signing or two. Especially if Pivetta's early success was a mirage.

Am I mistaken or where Houck and Whitlock starting candidates at some point?

And while Bloom deserves some slack for the bullpen/roster construction (the 1B/RF situations in particular), it's worth noting more than 1/5 of the payroll came from Sale and Price. Not only did he sign neither of them, but one of them is no longer on the team.

As for Houck/Whitlock, they were rotation candidates. Whitlock held his own as a starter (4.15 ERA, 3.60 FIP, 38/9 K/BB) but then he got hurt. Right now I'd say he has more value to the team as a multi-inning reliever, but if they can shore up the bullpen in the offseason I'd be fine with giving him another shot as a starter. Tanner's shown promise as a starter but he hasn't really shown a reliable third pitch and has never really shown he can pitch a third time through the order (though I think that's more management than him showing an inability to do so).

Kutter Crawford has looked much better (3.38 ERA, 3.36 FIP, .643 OPS against, 46/11 K/BB in 48 IP) since getting recalled. Unless he falls off a cliff, I'd imagine he'll be a candidate for the Opening Day rotation next year.

Winckowski hasn't been abysmal but I do worry about the lack of whiffs (5.8 K/9, 6.4 SwStr%) and all the contact he's allowing (85.4% contact%, 74.2% O-Contact%).

I like Bello. His command has been iffy but I think his stuff looks good. He just needs to keep facing major league hitting.

Another 10 runners left in scoring position. Earlier this year they were betting big hits. When they didn't hit they pitched, when they didn't pitch, they hit and if they were close the bullpen could carry them. Now they're doing the exact opposite and the bullpen no longer has King and Holmes has come back to earth. Going to be an interesting final 3rd of the season.
