To me the leadoff guy has to be both a good hitter and a speedster. A guy that can get a leadoff single and before you know it he's on 3rd with 2 stolen bases.
Yeah high OBP and a good baserunner. I feel Benintendi would be better suited to lead off because Betts would be better suited in the 2-hole with his power. But then they'll want to have a lefty hitting 3rd and they really don't have a high-average lefty hitter. Which is why I believe they are going with Betts, Benny, Bogaerts/Hanley depending on who is hot.To me the leadoff guy has to be both a good hitter and a speedster. My lead off guy is a scrappy kid, one who looks in the eye of the pitcher and makes him work, steps out of the box pisses him off, gets into his head, let the next batter see what he has, do whatever it takes to get on base and when he does get on, again get a good lead, keep your eye on the release of the ball, you see that ball is not reaching catcher, you take off. That catcher has to catch that ball clean get a good grip and make the perfect throw... if you think Gardner was that guy , I don’t!
My number 2 has to move that guy if he doesn’t get a good pitch to steal , he has to give himself up, to try and give his team beat chance at an early lead ... takes a lot of pressure off starter.
The rest is up to the gap hitter and clean up... then Rince & repeat
Your philosophy is strickley playing long ball.
You basically just described Gardner's game to a T.
I'm beginning to suspect this is schtick.
No schtick, just an angry old guy who wants everyone to believe he played professionally

He lost with me with the "we need a scrappy kid like Ellsbury instead of Gardner" line of reasoning.

lol, how many hall of famers would remember you?
What is your definition of a stud player? O'Neill, Williams, and Jeter were studs for an extended period of time during the Yankees 4 out of 5 run in my book.please don't fall into that nonsense, you appear to be a good dude, it aint ALL schtick!
personally, i have no problem being wrong about something, i'll be the first one on here to admit it. but i am sorry, the yankees are going to have trouble! it was a mistake letting castro and frazier go. those 2 were special players. the yankees won rings with special players , not stud players , the broscious, jeter, bernie ,oneill's none of these guys were stud players, what they they were the intangibles!

Okay I guess if your definition of "stud" is one of the 10 greatest players of all time, then sure. Although Gibson is out of place here.Ruth Cobb ted Williams DiMaggio Gibson *bonds* Griffey jr. would have put afraud in there, don’t know how long he was juicin

Intangibles or not, he would be in.I don’t just look at the physical aspect of a player, the mental part plays a major role and the players history tells me a lot . There is already a mental issue going with with Stanton having to adjust to another position, and other things to consider as well.
As far as Jeter goes, love em! its the intangibles that are going to get him in hall.
