I thought it was pointless even without considering his injury history. There were plenty of red flags around his performance. Velocity was down, shitty peripherals.

I had Paxton diagnosed properly in July…

The weird thing is the Red Sox already had the full “James Paxton Experience” last year and he was mediocre, at best. He’s pretty-much cooked at this stage of his career. I don’t really get it.

They could have been an interesting wild card team with a decent starting pitching addition, or 2. But they didn’t even try. And as I’ve learned from Yankees fans over the last decade or so: “the postseason is a crapshoot”.

They just needed to make a push to get in and didn’t bother. And they have a bunch of prospects to trade and room under the luxury tax, as well. They just punted on the opportunity instead.
