Once again, the Orioles are in a game with a terrible ump. Brandon Hyde just got ejected because of the entire dugout chirping at the home plate ump.

I suppose that the adjustments that Holliday made in the minors to deal with the high fastballs he was seeing his first promotion have been successful, because good lord has he been impressive in his current stint.

Tonights homer went 424.

Now if the same folks could help Mayo look at - instead of swinging at - breaking balls out of the zone, the O’s would be in business.

After watching Bobby Witt pummel the Red Sox all week all I can say is that kid is a legit superstar. Wow is he impressive. The Royals were so smart to lock him down long-term.

Nice to see Xander Bogaerts chip in with 23RBI’s in year 2 of his 147 year deal. That contract is an all-timer.

I’m probably going to watch Gunner walk after 6.5 years, while KC did the smart thing locking him down.

It’s definitely going to be an anchor for the Padres for the next decade. I can not see a universe where that contract doesn’t age well.

Orioles signed JD Davis to a minor league deal.

I do not feel good about this one. Hope he never sees the MLB level for us.

I'm glad the Sox avoided that one, though his 2023 was honestly a lot better than I remembered it being (120 wRC+, 4.7 WAR). But even for as well as he played in 22-23, his Statcast metrics were well below his actual production. I'd imagine Fenway helped play a role in that overachieving in 2022. He just doesn't hit the ball hard anymore.

I do hope he plays better than this though, I have no ill will with him. The Sox had plenty of opportunities to extend him and they fucked up. I can't blame him for going to SD for more years and money, even if Boston's offer had a higher AAV. He was one of the best hitting shortstops in franchise history and one of the faces of the franchise from 2013-22.

I’m interested to see how the new ownership for the O’s spends their money. It’s unlikely that they will be able to keep all of Rutschman, Henderson, Holliday, Cowser, Westberg, Rodriguez etc…. I’m sure they also want to keep Burnes after this season. But they are not tied down with any bad/bloated contracts and almost have a clean slate(unless they are still paying Chris Davis lol). You can’t be in a better financial situation than they are at the moment.

Agreed. I am a huge Xander fan and would love to see him excel. The Sox got lucky getting him to sign the first extension(especially with Boras as his agent), though. They got an extra few years of him before this decline. I agree that he would be better than THIS if he had stayed, too. As a punishment for botching his negotiations, the Sox were saddled with the corpse of Trevor Story instead.
