Grissom has basically had a lost season. He had an issue with one hamstring that caused him to miss Spring Training. Then it was the other hamstring. Then he was sick when he went to rehab. At least he’s active and playing in AAA now. But he won’t be able to provide anything close to what Sale has done this year.

Meanwhile, David Hamilton has been pretty damn good at 2B so I don’t even know where Grissom fits on the roster when he is activated.
That’s a fair point, I forgot about Hamilton basically replacing him. I wasn’t sure he was even playing yet, thought he might still be on a rehab assign

Grissom is right handed and Boston is extremely lefty lopsided. If Grissom could hit, they'd figure out a way to get him in there....

Luckily, he's only 23, so the Sox will have time to use him (or trade him).

Ceddanne Rafaela is the first player since at least 1901 to play 60+ games at shortstop AND 60+ games in center field in the same season (h/t @EliasSports).

He leads AL rookies in RBI (57), hits (100), runs (55), and total bases (163), and ranks 2nd in HR (13) and steals (16)...

He's having a solid rookie season, but there's still a lot I'd like to see him improve on before I buy into him as a part of the future core. His plate discipline still worries me a lot.

If anyone on this team should be getting serious RoY consideration, it's Abreu.

He’s a very raw talent and has had some great moments this season. I can only imagine his potential if he stops chasing everything outside the zone!

the strikeout rate isn't even that insane (25.3%), though it comes with a 17.8% SwStr%. he has one of the highest O-Swing% rates among qualified hitters

Grayson Rodriguez mysteriously scratched from start tonight minutes before it. One Twitter account tried to read the lips- ‘I don’t feel right’ and the Orioles radio was quoted as saying “Rodriguez is puking up his guts in the bullpen.”

Sounds like he had too much fun on his day off yesterday in America’s Hat.

And the stomach thing is incorrect. It was just described on air as “right lat teras discomfort’ that he felt during long toss.

Surprised to see Cowser as such a favorite. Those numbers aren’t anything special at all.
It’s a light field to me. But Cowser is a pretty good defender, he will play instead of Mullins against most lefties in CF, and will play LF (and a great LF in Wall-timor).

Guess it depends on how the voters will evaluate the total package from Rafaela and Abreu, and I admit I do not know how well they are defensively.

A 127 OPS+ is good, but it is below Abreu's. Abreu also has a better WAR

I don't feel like there's any standout performers. Maybe Miller, but he's just a reliever. I'd give Gil the nod over him.

Coming into the season I think Holliday and Evan Carter were the overwhelming favorites. But things haven’t gone to plan. It’s definitely been a light field as a result.

If Abreu doesn’t get hurt going down the dugout steps, he might be the favorite by now. He’s pretty impressive and seems to do just about everything well. He also has a rocket for an arm in RF. To think he was considered the lesser of the 2 prospects they got from HOU for Christian Vazquez, too.

I don’t normally overreact like this. In fact, I always preach patience, whether it is a short term situation, or a team-building situation.

But Gregory Soto has gotta go.

All three lefties got a hit off Soto, five runs total, a double steal and Adley’s first passed ball of the year.

Soto sucks.

I am definitely a fan of Rafaela’s. He’s had some really big hits and a lot of great defensive plays(at the 2 hardest defensive positions, too). But 12 walks in 415 plate appearances is kind of hurting my brain. He needs to do better in that area as he develops.
