This is where it can get interesting. If they call it, does it still revert to the last completed inning? If so that run will not count.
Both teams are off tomorrow. Can finish it tomorrow afternoon

O’s salvage the split. Not so great start by Burnes but we picked him up and got made the Guardians bullpen look somewhat human over this series. Jackson Holliday looks like he’s here to stay, he had a great series.

White Sox have lost 20 in a row, and are now one loss away from tying the 1988 O’s for most consecutive losses.

While I feel bad for the white sox fans, remembering how terrible it was to be a fan of the O’s then, I’m still hoping the Sox can lose two in a row to erase one stat from the O’s ignominious past.

The MLB record is 26 straight losses, by the 1889 Louisville Colonels btw, which some of you statheads probably already knew and I did not.

The Phillies have the longest losing streak in modern MLB history (defined as when there were two leagues), which warms my heart almost as much as watching those overrated clowns get swept in their own fucking stadium by another AL East team, even though that team was the Yankees.

It really sucks for the fans because many that I know are diehards, and they were ready to have a successful run with their core. That core flamed out, and they have an awful owner who doesn’t even have a reason like Peter Angelos did for them not to be any good at developing talent.

It’s going to be a long build, and based off this trade deadline, I’m not sure Getz is the GM to be seeing this through. And the manager has got to go. No way Pedro Grifol is going to be able to lead this team through a rebuilding period.

All of this is true, unfortunately.

Not selling off Crochet et al by asking for astronomical deals isnt going to engender goodwill between GMs or players and the team.

The owner is a sunofabitch too.

I feel bad for them…. after they lose two more.

Volpe at #9 surprises mes, but a lot of that seems to be from defense, positional adjustments, and baserunning. He has looked very good defensively.

This just proves that WAR overvalues good defense by a shortstop?

Tanner Houck was the 5th starter, so who knows...
It’s crazy the way things work out. I wasn’t really opposed to moving Sale when they did. He hadn’t been healthy in 4 years and seemed unlikely to put things together in 2024. I even thought they got a pretty decent return in Vaughn Grissom. But, in hindsight, they could have really been contenders with Sale this season.

Is the issue with Grissom really all the weight he lost being sick? It’s odd that he hasn’t been brought up since then, but that would make sense.

This team with Sale would be fit for a great run right now.

Grissom has basically had a lost season. He had an issue with one hamstring that caused him to miss Spring Training. Then it was the other hamstring. Then he was sick when he went to rehab. At least he’s active and playing in AAA now. But he won’t be able to provide anything close to what Sale has done this year.

Meanwhile, David Hamilton has been pretty damn good at 2B so I don’t even know where Grissom fits on the roster when he is activated.

That’s a fair point, I forgot about Hamilton basically replacing him. I wasn’t sure he was even playing yet, thought he might still be on a rehab assignment.
