A Yankees-Sox game under 3 hours that WASN'T rain-shortened? What's next, Ben Revere hitting three home runs in a game? Paul Konerko stealing 3 bases in a game? Joe Saunders striking out 20 batters? Dougy making a grammatically correct post?

Does anyone still take the Red Sox seriously? The defending champions are 36-44 and curled up in a fetal position.

- Only 74 runs scored in June with 3 games to go, least amount in the American League.

They made Vidal Nuno look like Tanaka last night. Speaking of which, it wouldn't shock me if he pitched a perfect game tonight.

Boston has the best rotation in the division but also the worst offense. Ortiz .231 in June.

The Sox don't rank higher than 12th in the AL in runs, batting, HR's, or slugging. They're also 14th with runners in scoring position (.229)

I do think the offense will start scoring runs sooner or later, but I feel like this team will end up like the 2013 Nats. Injuries decimated their lineup and they struggled to score runs over the first 4 months. They eventually got healthy and had one of the best offenses in all of baseball over the last 1-2 months, but they were in too deep of a hole in the playoff race by then. They started playing well down the stretch, but they were never a serious threat to the Reds/Pirates for either of the WCs.

While everything that could go right for the Sox pretty much happened last year, almost everything that could go wrong for them has. Outside of Napoli (who spent time on the DL) and a few others, most of their hitters have seen their numbers regress.

Red Sox rotation really hasn't been that good. Lester and Lackey are having fine years, but Doubront/Peavy/Buchholz have been absolute crap. Red Sox starting pitchers are actually ranked 14th in the AL in Wins Above Average, ahead of only the Indians. The bullpen has been great so far though, ranking 2nd behind Seattle.

They can't score off Nuno, but they get a run off Tanaka (Ross HR). Lol.

Wow. May 28, 2000 all over again (Pedro/Clemens). Napoli with the Nixon-esque HR.

That must've been an awesome Saturday night game to attend. Tanaka shook off 2 pitches before deciding on the one that Napoli hit out, huh?

The Sox have 47 quality starts, most among AL East teams.
Toronto 42
NY 40
Tampa 34
Baltimore 33

I didn't watch the game but I saw the highlights and yea, it wasn't a smart decision on Tanaka's behalf to throw one down the pipe against Napoli when 1st base was open and a scrub in the on deck circle.

Back down to reality as expected but hey, at least we post when our team loses.

Lackey and Lester have 24 of those.. Was surprised to see Peavy had 9 though. But the definition of a quality start seems kinda flawed. A 4.50 ERA in this era isn't really "quality" imo, considering the league ERA this year is 3.79.

Where did you get this stat BK. I believe it is wrong. The Jays were 13-17 in their first 30, 23-7 in the next 30. so after 60 games they were at 36-24. They are now 45-39, so 9-15 in their last 24.

I have would say that Toronto finishs with 80 wins. Third place, but only 5 games behind the winning Orioles.

Heard it sportscenter when they showed the highlights....it did sound a bit odd.

Even with the stats I showed, you take away the mid 30 game stretch and the Jays are 10 games under .500. They have another hot streak in them, but it will be just enough to finish right at .500.

The AL East is a bad division but we'll still get 2 teams in. I think the Angels get one WC and the other WC is probably coming from this division
