The Twins won the division 3 straight years on 2 straight occaisions.

And guess what? No championships on either side.

What is it that you are trying to argue? Or do you not even know?

YOU are the one who asked the question about what championships the Tigers had won recently. I just answered your question.

As far as the Twins winning 3 in a row. I give them props -- they had a solid regular season team for the AL Central. It is also why they were 6-15 in the playoffs with one playoff series win since the turn of the century. The Tigers may not have won a World Series yet with this team, but at least they are competitive with the top teams in the league when they reach the playoffs.

Ummmm....

I didn't ask any question. I simply stated that the twins have a farm system to be proud of with a once in a generous talent and a bona fide power threat as just two of the many prospects they have.

You then started being asinine acting like having a great system isn't something to look forward too.

If you really want to, I guess we can. The Tigers won the AL Central the last 3 years and they were the AL Champs in 2006 and 2012.

Alright -- now it is your turn.

Hooray for 2nd place in 2006 and 2012, or in other words same amount of World Series Championships as the Twins in 2006 and 2012...

Still means nothing if you don't win the World Series. Feel like we have talked about this a time or ten but if you aren't the Champion in professional sports who gives a shit!

I believe being AL Champions counts in the championship department. Now.... International League Champions, those don't count.

Speaking of meaning absolutely nothing.............................what about minor league stats and prospect rankings?

Especially when the prospects haven't even played Triple A yet.

Minor league stats can be useful in certain contexts. For example, I know David Lough's batting average should not be in the .280-.300 area when his Babip in AAA was much lower than his babip at the ML level which is unsustainable given his sample size at AAA and age. Because Lough's offensive value is mostly average based due to his low BB%, it is reasonable to assume he will regress offensively. Furthermore, defensive numbers can be highly volatile at times, so his impressive defensive numbers shouldn't hold much weight given the sample size.

It is also interesting when comparing to his peer group. For example, Adalberto Mondesi isn't overtly impressive statistically outside of his age compared to his peer group (kind of like rankings).I don't see why you have a big problem with minor league stats when their main purpose is more of a comparison to their peer group than anything. There is the occasional item where they are useful in determining if it is probable for a ML player to present power numbers, or a high number of SB's, etc.

Rankings aren't as useful as much as the analysis of the scouts. Does a pitcher have an average changeup or below average changeup for example. Does he flash any skills to indicate otherwise? Rankings are just a composition of thoughts regarding tools, as well as stats to an extent, in comparison to other prospects.

The one thing I do have a problem with, and this is why I prefer to read the analysis than the ranking itself, is that prospect fetishism (or homerism as it is often called) tends to influence the rankings more than the actual evaluation. The comparison isn't completely compromised or wrong, it is just inherently flawed and people should realize that.

Fair enough but having players that have the potential to be good in the future is better than having a system full of shit no? I spend alot of time reading about and watching AA ball and I think I love the minors nearly as much as I do the bigs and I don't really think AAA is where a player needs to shine it's AA IMO. Buxton is a can't miss prospect as i've seen maybe ever.

I have gone to some AAA games myself. It always is neat to watch just a couple guys in detail; it is a layer I usually am not so focused on usually as much as the team composition. I am philosophically opposed to calling anyone a "can't miss prospect," but if one were to exist, his name is Byron Buxton.

I agree. I just never get overly excited about 'prospects'. That is why I love the way the Tigers have went about building their team. Trading prospects, including 'can't miss prospects' like Cameron Maybin and turning it into Miguel Cabrera. Detroit built the majority of their roster by trading away prospects for young MLB talent under team control for multiple years. That is why, even they rankings say Detroit is ranked toward the bottom for the Minor leagues -- they still have a very young roster.

I can understand the Twins excitement for players like Buxton and Sano, but until they show they can put up the numbers in the MLB -- they are still nothing more than prospects. All the prospects Detroit has traded away to acquire players like Miguel Cabrera, Omar Infante, Jhonny Peralta, Doug Fister, Anibal Sanchez, Jose Iglesias, etc., and none of the prospects have panned out to be much of anything. Jacob Turner is the one who has a chance to be pretty good. Outside of that -- Detroit basically robbed all these teams.

No one knows how a young player is going to perform at the MLB level until they get up to the bigs and show they can do it. That is why I will take MLB ready talent over a hyped prospect every day of the week.

I wont argue anything you said however off the top of my head I cant think of a prospect the Tigers have had that compares to Buxton. I am envious of the Tigers recent success but as a Twins fan all I have is the future I guess that's why it's a little easier to be excited about the prospects in our system.

Oh and the Marlins trading Miggy for what they did is almost on par with the Sox selling the bambino to the evil empire.

Not to nitpick, but Maybin and Miller were ranked the #6 and #10 prospects in all of baseball at the time of the trade. Plus DeLaCruz and Trahern who were both top ten in the Tigers organization. And then Badenhop and Rabelo. Not sure what Buxton or any of the other prospects in Minnys organization are ranked, but that trade had a ton of expected/anticipated value headed to the Marlins at the time. (LA offered Kershaw, Kemp and a throw in. Boston had Elsbury and change on the table. Detroits offer trumped those, somehow.).

Say it isn't so. It isn't just the Royals we have to listen to about the farm system. It is now the Twins too?!?!

Maybe the Twins and Royals could battle on who will be the first to say -- Wait till next year in 2014.

calm down, we all are still waiting on the tigers year....funny how its the tiger fans that keep throwing out the "wait til next year" line for other teams..yet...other than Cleveland, they have been waiting the longest.
