What's your problem with Ricky's curve TMIR? He has 111 Ks. It's not like he's Kevin Correia or anything
I actually like his curve and I'm ecstatic he got rid of the slider, as teams just tee'd off on that pitch.
I've already said, I like Porcello in the role he has on the team, as the #5 starter. I think he is a very good #5 starter. I just don't have the same reservations as some that Porcello is going to develop into a top end starter, who will give you a 3.50 and under ERA. I think he will be a pitcher who hovers in the 4.00 to 4.50 range and eat a ton of innings and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.
Personally, I think he is better suited to pitch in the NL and if I had to choose between Smyly and Porcello on which guy would turn out to be a better starting pitcher in the MLB -- My choice would be Smyly. Both guys have a great demeanor on the mound, but IMO, Smyly has shown he not only can he miss bats, but also limit the amount of hits he gives up.
I've been wrong before, so I could be dead wrong here. I'm just not as high on RP as others. Maybe I need to look past last year more than anything else, but I just have a hard time seeing a pitcher give up a .310 BAA for a season as someone who will be anything more than what he has shown up to this point. I do have to give RP props on cutting down on the walks, while increasing his strikeouts. Who knows, maybe with the addition of Iglesias, it will help take Porcello to the next level.
