Tigers fans. I gotta say that while hes a good part of the middle of your order. Vmart has to be frusterating. The guy is just a DP waiting to happen. Makes Miggy and Prince look like Usain Bolt.

I actually welcome him hitting with a guy on 1st. Great chance for 2 outs. He ended the Royals game last weekend on a DP too.

Verlander, still looking like a .500 pitcher on a winning ball club....something is wrong with his arm or he has...."comfortitise"....a disease that strikes any professional sports player who signs a big contract...symptoms are....lack of focus...not concerned with team play or outcome...comfortable...tends to say "there is life after.....ie.. baseball (fill in sport)".......lack of heart...(well with Verlander's postseason/world series numbers, there was that already noticable of that symptom)....can anyone say....Kevin Brown...Mike Hampton....the list can add another one soon.

maybe it was just Minny's offense is too good...it wasn't the A's lineup...

no need to go after Rondon...he is just on the list of many relievers for Detroit...how long before Smyly starts to show kinks....when the pressure is turned up?

It could possibly be that he's been overworked the past 2 years, where he's averaged about 270 innings each of the past 2 seasons when you factor in playoffs (which is a sharp increase from his 2010 level of 224).

We saw that happen to Cole Hamels for example, and he's rebounded nicely from it....I guess we'll need to wait to see how he performs next year.

You don't see the Tigs lose those kind of games. Only 5 gm lead for em.

Now the Tribe have 3 with the best team in baseball (Braves) and The Tigs. 2 huge series.

Time to step it up.

Doug, here's one for you. I posted it elsewhere, and I do believe it :

The entire A.L. is mediocre, with the exception of the Tigers. And the entire N.L. is mediocre. Period.

Even as a Dodger fan, I hate to say that the only team stacked with pitching AND offense, is Detroit.

Still, any team who makes the playoffs can still win the whole thing...
you are very wise beefman

No, he should not have said that towards Douglas. I ask that you respect Douglas and his opinions and there shall be no more of this kind of talk towards Douglas. Thank you so very kindly.

I think there's some merit to that. (And NO merit to the lack of "heart" that bums alluded to.) Prior to yesterday, Verlander had a 2.48 ERA in four starts, and he threw many fastballs 95 or higher. Yesterday, he had one at 96, a couple at 94, and everything else was 90-93. When you've got fatigue, it affects not only velocity, but location. A poorly located low-90's fastball is very hittable in the major leagues, and we've seen that in a lot of JV's starts.

Rays were 19-11 the last month of the season last year, and 17-10 to the last month of 2011...you're not convincing anyone that that's considered 'fading late in the season'

They didn't make the playoffs last year because they struggled midway through the year, but played extremely well down the stretch.

His speed isn't frustrating. Not when he's had teammates like Jhonny Peralta and Alex Avila since he came to the Tigers. I understand where you're coming from. But in Detroit, there's basically no emphasis on team speed whatsoever. You guys have outfielders that can run, always. Our worst baserunner is probably the fastest man on the roster. Hell, we had Sean Casey and Aubrey Huff not that long ago... VMart is a burner compared to some of the lead feet we've had to watch.
