I wouldn't say that's all.

20 year career with 3,200+ IP, 3.46 ERA, 127 ERA+, 3,116 K

He had a 10-year stretch (1995-2004) where he was pretty fucking awesome. 212+ IP/season, 9.5 K/9, 5.3 K/BB.
It's all about WINS. Must I school you all the time like a dumb ass Texas fhag??

Sorry, should have dumbed it down....11-2 isn't an argument against him, it's the fact that it carries ALL the weight of him making it into the HOF....I don't see him as a best of his generation type of pitcher and I think his credentials are lacking....By a lot.....

Yeah, that's his only argument for making the HOF. Not the fact that he has a career 3.46 ERA and 1.14 WHIP in the 90s/00s (127 ERA+, which is better than most HOF starting pitchers) or 80.7 WAR to his name and eleven top 10 finishes (8 of those were top 5) to his name. He was dominant and an absolute workhorse in his peak (led the NL with over 250 innings in 1998 and 2001) and he had two other seasons with 250+ innings, which is pretty incredible for the late 90s. He led his league in complete games four times (including 15 in 1998) and finished top 3 five other years as well. And let's not forget he has the 5th best K/BB ratio of all-time and was one of the best strikeout pitchers ever.

I know his numbers very well....Had some great years and some very average ones over 20 years....The pitchers that he is most similar to statistically are Hershiser and Brown.....Both solid pitchers, but they are on the outside looking in for the HOF....

Hey, Im not gonna let you just talk about your wife like that

Bullshit, asshole.

She's allergic to peanut butter, and contrary to popular belief, aliphatic shock does not improve the receivers enjoyment of fellatio.

I gotta us Nutella for that.

Schilling and Mussina are to me, very similar cases, and IMO, both worthy of induction.

Mussina's career ERA being about 1/10 of a run higher than Schilling's is more than mitigated by the fact that he spent 12 years in the NL, while Mussina spent all 18 of his seasons in the meat-grinder that was the AL East.

That said, Mussina should get in next year based on how he's trending. Not so sure about Schilling. He might be in already based on his post-season heroics if he just knew how to keep his trap shut.

Agreed. I think both are inner circle. I'd say if we're comparing their best seasons, Schilling comes out on top just because he was an absolute workhorse those years (Mussina never reached 250 innings, Schilling did it four times) and Schilling had seven seasons with a 140 ERA+ or higher (Moose had 4). On the other hand, Moose was far more durable. Moose had eleven seasons with 200+ innings while Schilling had 9. Moose also had twelve seasons with 30+ starts while Schilling had 7.

granted some of those are just arbitrary numbers.

Moose doesn't get much love for his postseason performance, but he had a 3.42 ERA over 139.2 innings and he pitched well enough in his three WS starts.

The start I remember the most was 7 innings of 4 hit ball out in Oakland in 2001 with the Yanks on the brink of extinction (The Jeter flip play game)

But probably the most clutch performance was in relief in game 7 of the 2003 ALCS. 4th inning, 1st and 3rd, no out, Sox already up 4-0. K'ed Varitek, got Damon to ground into the inning ending DP. The rest is history.

I've always been a fan of Mussina and I hope he gets in.

I read a book that documented his and Glavin's final seasons in New York, Yankees and Mets respectively. Pretty interesting. I think it was called Pitching In The Black, or something like that.

Living on the Black, by John Feinstein. Very good. I think he's probably the best writer out there doing that type of sports book. He's also written several excellent books about both pro golf and college hoops.
