dont care how good this team plays 5on5 or for 40mins....team is not going to go anywhere without a semi functional powerplay. just lame and a disgrace how bad this unit is. watching the final 2mins of this game 0 shots on the powerplay (some of the time with 6v4) and still i think just one shot in the final 3mins of the game?

i've never seen a team spend so much time fighting on the boards for the puck wasting so much energy and time and doing nothing really else. just stupid

all the powerplay is is just moving the puck around the outside no penetration....and if i see another pass to someone down low and try to walk out and stuff it i'm going to scream!

This ... and this alone sums up why we lose most games... 0-5 on the PP with hardly any shots is just sad.... but they are working on it... so tired of hearing that excuse... and then to give up the SHG on top of that.... we play better 5 on 5 and that is sad... because we dont score many 5 on 5 as it is....

Ugh I am sick of hearing that excuse. Working on it looked really good results will come. Just factor in a ppg here or there we probably have 2-3 more wins. I don't get how it is continuously bad year after year

We got the players to have a decent PP I think. I know Kovy is out now but with Parise, the unit should be better.
I am also tired of hearing they are working on it. It's year after year already. Wasn't Oates a power play specialist back in the day?

I agree oats has been a major let down. I don't really see what they have been working on the pp looks the same to me every year. Outside movement everyone stationary...throw the puck down to the side of net let Parise take two steps and try to stuff it short side

Definition of insanity- Doing same thing over and over and expecting different results.
I think it applies to this team and it's power play.

Couldn't agree more! I think they need to remove clarkson and just roll with the most skilled players out there

i thought just like everyone else that kovalchuk would be instant help and he isn't. partly because I don't think the devils do enough to move the defense and open lanes. everytime gets a pass for a onetimer he has guy standing in front of him. because the d doesn't have to move they just stay in the box

He was, but alas, being a good player doesn't necessarily mean you're a good coach. Look at Gretz.

I've said it before, it applies to our scoring woes and the PP, the problem is that we do not attack the net. We don't really have anybody that can create havoc in front of the net, or really drive the lane. Our whole offensive gameplan revolves around cycling and controlling the perimeter. At some point you have to go right down the middle.

To add to that, with the exception of Clarkson, we are desperately lacking physicality up front. We could really use a power forward on one of our scoring lines.

Zubrus is our biggest strongest forward. I don't know when they don't make him stand in front of the goalie during the PP. If Pronger, a defenseman, can do it during the playoffs, Zubrus should be able to.

Exactly, that's what we should be doing. And if Clarkson is getting PP time he should be crashing the net as well. When Zajac gets back he should be doing the same. If you want to cycle and use those guys along the boards, fine, just not during the PP.

I wish we would get rid of Oates and Robinson on the bench as coaches... Oats and his PP ( I know he was great in his day, but it just isnt working and hasnt for years). I think the whole team needs new coaching ideas and faces... it started with the head coach and so far, I havent been dissappointed, but clear all the old familiar faces out and see where it leads... Let the new coach have his new coachs with him.. not the devils coaches from the past that have been here forever... I am tired of the same looking problems that do not get fixed... so lets start from the top in the coaches department....

Vort i 100% agree....I Love that the devils keep their talent in house but sometimes u just need to bring in some fresh blood. I loved the oates move it was exactly that hasn't worked out ok so move on. Is t bone really the best Goalie coach out there? I mean if you look at behind the bench these guys pop to mind. Maclean albilen carpenter barr Robinson fetisov. Who else am i missing?
