Those things are used all the time. It is common discipline. Our society has become so uptight on little things.

It's not like he punched the kid square in the face. It was a spanking, with a rod/tree branch.

If this was considered an awful crime throughout history basically every newborn child would be a prison baby.

I think you are looking at the word "beating" and it looks bad. Maybe i should say discipline. A normal discipline, is you know, hitting your kids with a belt or spanking them with your hand.

I'm aware of what a spanking is and don't understand why anyone would think it's ok. Lashing them with a belt is even worse.

Nothing wrong with giving your kid a spanking. A beating is a different story. Somewhere between the two is a grey area. Honestly, I think society was better off when spanking was normal. Kids today will lip you off, finger you, egg you on, etc because they feel they're under some invisible blanket of protection. It fosters an environment of little assholes if you ask me (and I know you didn't). Just my opinion. To each their own, but I've got 4 very well mannered kids who've all received spankings at one time or another and I've got buddies who's wives refuse to let the dad's discipline their kids and it's painful going over to their houses as a result. Their kids are off the chain and have no hesitation to act like hooligans because they've learned nothing bad will happen to them.
