Look, don't misunderstand what I am saying here. Emmitt Smith was one of the greatest RB's in NFL history. Emmitt was blessed with one of the top 5-6 OL in history, and was blessed with not having a major injury.

I would bet that if you asked any NFL GM or HC if they could have any RB present/past in their prime and as they picked, that player was taken off the list...Emmitt would not even be a top 10 pick.

I doubt that very seriously. That is like saying Smith is not a top 10 player ever at RB. Talent wise is he top 10? No not even top 100 to make it in the NFL, but talent does not make the player. This is not Madden where you look for the fastest strongest player. In real life heart decides how far you go. I could probably name 10 backs at least that are in the NFL that are more talented than Smith ever was, but better than he was? No way, heart plays a major role into all of that.

Let me show everyone who says anyone could have done what Smith did wrong, let me also show how important this guy was to Dallas during our SB years. In 1993 Smith held out the first two games we went 0-2 in those games, Smith also didn't play against the Falcons that year if memory serves me correct, we also lost that game. Well Smith played in 13 games that season and we went 12-1 in those games, the 3 games he did not play we went 0-3. Not to mention we won the SB that year with him. Get past all the records for a moment and understand that Smith's true greatness was defined by the fact that this team depended on him to win games, and as good as a team as we had then, the 93' team proved that without Smith there would be no SB that year or probably any other year. Smith is a top 3 RB of all time because he is a winner and his team depended on him so much to be a winner. Take away the fact his talent level was not the highest physically in the NFL, take away there was nothing truly special about him, and the fact remains he was probably the most important cause of us winning 3 rings in 4 years. Would you dare take away from Jerry Rice simply because his physical talent was not tops? Nothing special about Rice except work ethic and heart, same as Smith.

hey nets. I think its one thing trying to debate & convince someone that Emmitt was a top 5 guy, but if the person is saying he isn't even top 10, not sure explaining to someone like that will do any good. that is pretty far out there to try & make sense too.

LMFAO

anyone that doesn't have Emmitt top 5 much less top 10 doesn't even watch football.

But you han be proud. you currently have the #2 Rb in football. Behind Ray Rice.

He might actually be the 3rd best right now. If Jones-Drew returns to form this year. AP had a hella yeaar last year... but that doesn't take away from the fact he has been a fumbling machine since he''s been in the league.

A player doesn't need to rush for more yards than Emmitt to be better than he was. I keep using the same comparison but it works so what the hell, does a player have to pass Pete Rose in hits to be better than he was? Answer is of course not. I will agree right now CJ, Foster and Charles should not be in the same conversation as Emmitt but IMO which one might consider homerish AD is a much better RB than Emmitt ever was.

Let the attacks begin...:suds:

Never said he has to have more yards; but IF you are going to compare him to Smith lets look at all the Pro's

both have won MVP awards, both have led the league in rushing, while AP did break 2k Smith never has, while Smith has rushed for over 20TD's twice AP never has. If AP ends has his career cut short after this season or the next 3 will he even make the Hall of Fame yet alone 1st ballot, Smith has already and first ballot might I add. Oh ya and that one little major fact Smith has 3 SB's and 1 SB MVP, AP has neither. So to say AP is as good as or better than Smith now or in the near future is silly, when in reality if the man walked away from the game today there is a strong chance he would not even make it into the Hall of Fame. Now I am one to say AP is my favorite RB of all time considering the fact that he is one of few players that I have met and conversed with that actually has it all together up there and is as mentally strong as he is physically, as well is just a good guy (Andre Johnson is another guy I'd throw into this mix). I know numerous players personally, and have met and talked to numerous more, but this guy stands out. However to say that He is anywhere near Smith right now is :laugh3: and AP himself would shrug that one off as well. This I will not debate anymore, now if we may get back to the top 5 RB debate I will gladly converse on that topic.

Come on bro you can't do that, AP is by far the best RB in the NFL and might be the best player in the NFL. He has one and has always had one hell of a OL though.

AP has played six years and has avg about 4 fumbles a season due in large part his 2nd and 3rd year he had 9 and 7 those seasons, which he has only fumbled 6 times total since then, a large part is because of the extra yards he fights for he ends up carrying a 260 lb beast with the same arm he is holding the rock with. Now look at the other facts the man with the exception of the year he tore his acl has never rushed for less than 1300 yards (1298) in a season, that fact alone proves he is consistently great. Not here to argue about another teams player, but I can't knock greatness.

Sorry I have to disagree with you there.
Ray Rice is a better receiver out of the backfield and a better blocker. Pure runner AP all day but he's not as good of a complete total package rb.

Charles Johnson is by far the best player in the league. He has been the ONLY weapon Detroit has had.
Peterson has also had some pretty decent receivers around him Along with briefly Favre.

That's not as bad as him making such a big deal about Emmitt supposedly being the only player to rush for 20 TD's twice and BEING COMPLETELY WRONG ABOUT IT.

Fumbles first six seasons of their careers...

Peterson fumbles once ever 74.26 touches
Emmitt fumbled once every 74.45 touches

You didn't say rushed until you realized you were wrong.

Terrell Davis Denver Broncos 21 1998
Priest Holmes Kansas City Chiefs 21 2002

I was off by one ... Priest Homes did it ... but he isnt even in consideration as the top back all time. Very short career as a starter

If you don't know football... Don't try to talk it
