I would agree with one exception... Wyatt Earp was his only good one for me. Beat the hell out of the other version Tombstone with Kurt Russell.

Love Tombstone, hate Wyatt Earp. I think Costner does play a lot of the same roles but he stood out the most to me as a bad guy in A Perfect World and 3000 Miles to Graceland.

do you prefer Quaid's version of Doc or Kilmer's?

That is a tough one...

Quaid probably just because he lost so much damn weight and looked more like a real TB patient.. (probably all the Cocaine he was doing with Meg Ryan at the time).

But Kilmer was ok... just didn't look the part.

The one exception I would give Tombstone is Sam Elliot as Virgil... he is just made to be a cowboy with that low voice and big mustache.

Some of you folks are WAY OFF on John Travolta. He has been called one of Hollywood's most VERSATILE performers.

He does comedy well.
He plays a sweet good guy well.
He plays a nasty villain well.
He sings well. (OK...just so-so)
He dances well.

Also, he just turned 60 a couple weeks ago.

Lol, probably. I guess that means people have different tastes, biases and viewpoints?

or very limited exposure to certain actors' work. Yeah it's all opinion but several who've been mentioned should be on a list of actors with the most range, if anything. Some of these picks are just wrong.

Or different opinions on what range means. I think some people say that an actor isn't exhibiting range if he just looks the same and uses his normal voice, while his character potrayals are full of range.

How do you know if an actor has had opportunity to display his range?

Once an actor or actress gets typecast opportunities to do that can get very rare.

Outside typecasting doesnt really happen to big stars though, there is always different and unique opportunities for those actors that are considered very good. But a lot of times they'll stick with what's safe.
