Him being on that list is nuts. He showed more range in "Catch Me if You Can" than most actors do their whole careers.

I agree. Once a fresh faced kid, now a young master. 12-15 years ago(before CMIFYC) I felt completely different about LDC. But What's Eating Gilbert Grape still should have been enough to shut me up. (That was over 20 years ago, crazy.)

I think the problem is Hollywood is so ultra competitive that once an actor fits a "type" they become that role. Anytime that role is needed they get the call. I'd imagine it's tough to pass up the guaranteed paychecks. Example, I actually like Jason Statham a lot in the Guy Ritchie movies, I think he has a lot of potential and could be a very solid actor. But he can just crank out some variation of the same movie and keep cashing checks with ease. I blame Hollywood more than lack of acting ability for a lot of these.

Agree on Statham.

I seen a few mention Luke Wilson but none mention Owen Wilson. I think the worst is Adam Sandler, if he wasn't in grown ups it might have been funny. Oh and David Spade is pretty much the same guy in every movie.

The all time king of range is Edward G. Robinson... Well IMHO...

I've always liked Christian Bale.

Same here. Not sure how DiCaprio and Franco got on that list either. I cant think of too many actors better than them.

I have to admit I actually liked Waterworld. It gets a bad rap because it had such a huge budget and bombed at the box office. Same happened to The Wizard of Oz and that is now considered a cult classic. The movie was not terrible, but I don't see it becoming a cult classic either.

Does Jack act, or is Jack just being Jack?

Jack is unique. I think movie studios hire him because of that. He has a certain presence about him. I think he is just being himself but it's pretty cool.

:agree:

To be so cool, that studios pay you millions just to be yourself. Nice.

Wouldn't that be great? I can't even get a look from studios and this guy is a millionaire for simply being himself.

Matthew McC isn't great, but he'd wouldn't be on my top 10 of no-range actors. His work on True Detective and Dallas Buyers Club in the last 12 months shows that. He was also one of my favorite parts about Dazed and Confused.

Actors with no range would be Clint Eastwood, Kevin Costner, Channing Tatum, Adam Sandler, Steven Seagal, Zac Efron, Hayden Chistensen, etc.

See I disagree on Nicholson. Nicholson now is just the same guy over and over but Nicholson back in the day was fantastic. Watched Easy Rider for the first time fairly recently, the movie doesn't quite hold up but his character and acting were top notch.

I guess I'm getting at the actors with no range that aren't worth even watching. Robert Deniro and Clint Eastwood are very watchable. I don't miss their movies.

A lot of actors with little range are very watchable. Eastwood has zero range.

Ben Stiller gets my vote for zero range.
Zero. Whiny sad sack. And what's with his posture, for crying out loud? Stand up straight! Shoulders back, head up! Reminds me of a weasel.

Huh ? Dodgeball ? Tropic Thunder ? Not saying he's the greatest actor but he doesn't play the same personality all the time. Neither does Tom Cruise who's been mentioned. He's played many different types. He may be a dick in real life but he's a decent actor.

Sean Penn
Val Kilmer
Kevin Spacey

Agreed on Penn. Playing a retard was easy for him. It's in his nature. He has no range and these days looks like something a dog dropped out of its ass.

And no matter what, most still think Spiccoli was his best role because he was kinda lovable in that bit. But in real life, the guys as likeable as AIDS.

How he still keeps getting roles in Hollyweird, he must be sucking satans dick in his spare time. I think the guy is worthless as an actor.

Kilmer was a good call.

And Spacey is like Nicholson. Very limited range, but the delivery of it is amazing in the right roles.

He went full on retard man, you Neva go full on. (Tropic Thunder is prolly his best piece of work. For real.). DeNiro is guy that just likes to cash checks, can't say as I blame him. He put in his work. (I can see why someone would lump Nicholson in there.). To Joe Pesci and Ray Liota's credit the dont just cash checks.

Nobody has mentioned yet...

James Franco has literally never played the same character even twice

the fact he was even nominated on this thread is just......:L
