Do they even call that shit anymore? I swear I see it about 5 times a game. 10 if New England's playing.
They call it if it is blatant. Obviously the entire league uses passing plays that do this pretty liberally, it is the bread and butter of crossing routes, but if it is bad enough they do call it. Just checked the penalty stats, up through last week it has been called 39 times this season on WRs (most common WR penalty), 18 times on TEs (third most common on TEs after holding and false starts), and even twice on RBs (tied for fifth). There that's probably more than you ever wanted to know about illegal pick calls.
